WCHZ-FM (93.1 FM, "Hot 95.5/93.1") is a radio station broadcasting a classic hip hop format. Licensed to Warrenton, Georgia, the station goes by the name "Hot 95.5/93.1" and is owned by Beasley Media Group. History The station was assigned the call letters WRFN on August 4, 1997. It launched with a sports talk format, owned by Beard Broadcasting alongside sister AM sports station, WRDW. Beasley Broadcasting purchased both stations in 1999. On October 3, 2003, the station changed its call sign to WGAC-FM, simulcasting news/talk WGAC-AM. On August 10, 2011, WGAC-FM's news/talk format (simulcast of WGAC 580) moved to 95.1 FM, licensed to Harlem, Georgia, swapping frequencies with rock-formatted WCHZ; the stations also swapped call signs five days later. WCHZ (1480 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a classic hip hop format, simulcasting WCHZ-FM 93.1 Warranton, Georgia. Licensed to Augusta, Georgia, United States, the station was owned by Beasley Media Group. The transmitter was located along River Watch Parkway northwest of downtown Augusta. History The station was first licensed in 1930 to Warren C. Davenport's Musicove, Inc., at 309 Eighth Street in Augusta, for 100 watts on 1370 kHz. The original call letters of WRDW were randomly assigned from an alphabetic list of available call signs, and a later slogan was adopted of Where Radio Does Wonders. WGAC (580 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Augusta, Georgia. The station carries a talk radio format simulcast with co-owned 95.1 WGAC-FM Harlem, Georgia. The stations are owned by Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc., through licensee Beasley Media Group Licenses, LLC. The radio studios and offices are on Jimmie Dyess Parkway in Augusta. WGAC is a rare radio station that uses transmitter sites in different states. In the daytime, WGAC is powered at 5,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna off King Street in Martinez, Georgia. It is owned by Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc., through licensee Beasley Media Group, LLC, and is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to Clearwater, South Carolina to broadcast with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 11.5 kW. Warrenton is a city in Warren County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,937 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Warren County. History Warrenton was founded in 1797 as seat of Warren County (est. 1793). It was incorporated as a town in 1810 and as a city in 1908.
