WCFX
WCFX is an FM radio station broadcasting at 6,000 watts in Clare, Michigan. The station primarily serves Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the home of Central Michigan University, with a Top 40 (CHR) format as "Today's Best Music, 95-3 CFX." The station has operated with its current calls and format since 1980. What is now WCFX was originally WCRM-FM, co-owned with the now-defunct WCRM/990 (the calls stood for ''Crossroads of Michigan'', referring to the station's being located near the geographic center of the state). It became WRNN-FM on June 6, 1979. Later that year, both AM 990 and 95.3 FM went off the air. In 1980 the silent 95.3 FM was purchased by legendary Detroit broadcaster Paul Christy and returned to the air with Top 40 programming in November of that year as WCFX, originally known as "Foxy 95." Mount Pleasant, Michigan
Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in Central Michigan, the city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is surrounded by Union Township but is politically independent. Part of the city (with a population of 8,741) is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation. The tribe's Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in nearby Chippewa Township is also within the reservation boundaries. Clare, Michigan
Clare is a city mostly in Clare County in the U.S. State of Michigan. A small portion of the city extends south into Isabella County. The population was 3,254 at the 2020 census. Clare was settled as early as 1870 and contains two listings on the National Register of Historic Places: the Clare Downtown Historic District and the Clare Congregational Church. Jackson, Michigan
Jackson is the only city and county seat of Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 33,534, down from 36,316 at the 2000 census. Located along Interstate 94 and U.S. Route 127, it is approximately west of Ann Arbor and south of Lansing. WIBM (1450 AM) is a country music station in Jackson, Michigan owned by Jamie McKibbin, through licensee McKibbin Media Group, Inc.. This company also owns news/talk WKHM AM 970 and hot AC WKHM-FM "K105.3". WIBM's programming is also heard on FM via translator W240DG at 95.9 MHz. History WIBM was first licensed on June 3, 1925 to Billy Maine in Chicago, Illinois as a portable broadcasting station. The call letters were sequentially assigned, had no particular meaning, and were not associated with International Business Machines (IBM). WKHM-FM ("Jackson's Hit Music, K105.3") is a Top 40/CHR FM radio station licensed to Brooklyn, Michigan, United States, serving the Jackson area. History The WKHM callsign has a long Jackson tradition and is based on the names of the original owners of WKHM AM (Fred Knorr, Harvey Hansen, and Bill McCoy). The first WKHM-FM operated on 106.1 and is now WJXQ. The current WKHM-FM signed on in 1995 and originally programmed easy listening music, one of the last stations in Michigan to program such a format. "Easy Relaxed 105.3" played a mixture of adult contemporary hits, soft oldies, and smooth jazz.
