Licensed to Central City in Somerset County, the station first went on the air October 19, 1972 as WCCS, whose calls are used today by an AM station north of Somerset County in Homer City. The original owner of the station was Central Broadcasting Company, with Ben Jones serving as the company's president. The station was licensed to operate at 1330 kHz, with a daytime power of 5,000 watts, and a nighttime power of 35 watts. The station had been owned by Results Radio Company. History: beginnings as WADJ WBHV made its debut in the spring of 1981 as WADJ, owned by Johnstown radio and television legend Ron Lorence, known best to WJAC-TV audiences as the host of such popular locally-produced programs such as "Seniors Today" and "Scholastic Squares". Lorence was also known for many years (and still is today) as the voice of Pennsylvania's Allied Milk Producers' radio commercials. The station is owned by the Greater Johnstown School District and is operated by Lightner Communications out of Altoona, Pennsylvania. WCRO broadcasts at the federally assigned frequency of 1230 kHz, with a full-time power of 1,000 watts. History WCRO has the distinction of retaining the same call letters since first going on the air in September 1947, and that it has never had a sister FM station co-located with it. WFGI-FM (95.5 Hertz, MHz, "Froggy 95.5") is a Froggy (brand), Froggy branded country music formatted radio station in Pennsylvania serving the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Johnstown area. The station is owned and operated by Seven Mountains Media, LLC. History The station began at 96.5 (now WKYE) as WJNL-FM in 1973 as the sister station to WJNL. They played easy to listen to music and had news updates hourly. It was known as this until it was purchased in 1996 by Clear Channel Communications. Then it became "96.5 the Mountain" with the callsign WMTZ and began playing country music. In 2005, Clear Channel decided to leave the Johnstown market and sold its station properties to Altoona-based Forever Broadcasting. Forever wanted to expand its Froggyland into the Pittsburgh area and the 96.5 signal was not able to do so.
