WBQN (680 AM) is a radio station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, broadcasting a news-talk format. The station serves as the flagship station of the Borinquen Radio News Network and is owned by Wifredo G. Blanco-Pi (d/b/a Grupo AM Puerto Rico). It is an affiliate of CNN en Español radio news network. The station is rebroadcast by translator station W237FF 95.3 FM also located in San Juan. The station was relayed through an experimental synchronous station, WA2XPA Arecibo, which also broadcasts on 680 kHz. On April 19, 2017 the Federal Communications Commission ruled that WA2XPA's license will not be renewed. The ruling stated that it must discontinue operation on May 7, 2017 and the license would be cancelled on May 8, 2017. A petition for review of the order to cancel WA2XPA's license was submitted on April 24, 2017. The petition was withdrawn on September 5, 2017, and the license was cancelled on April 24, 2018. The station was assigned the WMIA call letters by the Federal Communications Commission. Ownership In 1957, WMIA begins operations on 1070 kHz, WMIA was owned and operated by Abacoa Radio Corporation until April 2017. On March 2, 2017, Wifredo G. Blanco Pi reached an agreement to purchase WMIA from Abacoa Radio Corp. The sale was completed on April 12, 2017. This becomes the fifth station of the WAPA Radio News Network. WKAQ (580 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Currently owned by Hemisphere Media Group, the station airs a Spanish language talk radio format. Its programming is repeated on WUKQ, which broadcasts on 1420 kHz in Ponce, and WYEL which broadcasts on 600 kHz in Mayagüez. The station was the first radio station to broadcast in Puerto Rico.
