W. J. Doran
William J. Doran (May 30, 1886 – February 28, 1949) was an American politician from St. Louis who served in the Missouri Senate from 1932–1944. He was the first Democratic senator to be elected to his district in 40 years. Doran was educated in public schools and the Benton College of Law Benton College of Law was a law school in St. Louis, Missouri. It opened in as Kent School of Law, and incorporated as Benton School of Law in 1897. George L. Corlis was its dean. James Avery Webb helped establish the school. Missouri Senate
The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. The Senate chooses a President Pro Tempore to serve in the absence of the lieutenant governor or when he shall have to exercise the office of governor of Missouri if there is a vacancy in that office due to death, resignation, impeachment, or incapacitation. Members of the Missouri General Assembly are prohibited from serving more than eight years in either the state house of representatives or state senate, or a total of sixteen years, due to statutory term limits. Benton College Of Law
Benton College of Law was a law school in St. Louis, Missouri. It opened in as Kent School of Law, and incorporated as Benton School of Law in 1897. George L. Corlis was its dean. James Avery Webb helped establish the school. The school initially only offered night classes. In 1899, an act of the Missouri legislature allowed graduates to be admitted to the Missouri bar without taking the bar exam. By 1921, the college was offering both day and night classes. It closed in 1937. Several documents related to the college are extant including copies of addresses given to graduating classes. Henry S. Priest spoke to the graduating class in 1914.
