Jay Ashcroft
John Robert "Jay" Ashcroft (born July 12, 1973) is an American attorney, engineer and politician serving as the 40th and current Secretary of State of Missouri since 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he is the son of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. As Missouri Secretary of State, Ashcroft pushed for stricter voter identification laws, meant to prevent voter fraud and supported an investigation into Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley. Early life Ashcroft is the son of politician John Ashcroft. Ashcroft attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy, but did not graduate. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Missouri University of Science and Technology. He then worked as an engineer. Buchanan County, Missouri
Buchanan County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 84,793. Its county seat is St. Joseph. When originally formed in 1838, the county was named Roberts County, after settler Hiram Roberts. It was renamed in 1839 for James Buchanan, then a U.S. Senator and later President of the United States. The county was formed from land annexed to Missouri, as were five other counties. Mordecai Oliver
Mordecai Baldwin Oliver (October 22, 1819 – April 25, 1898) was an attorney and two-term U.S. Representative from Missouri from 1853 to 1857. Biography Born in Anderson County, Kentucky, Oliver attended the common schools and then studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1842 and commenced practice in Richmond, Missouri. He served as a prosecuting attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit in 1848. Congress Oliver was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and reelected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1853–March 3, 1857). Later career Oliver was elected as a Unionist Secretary of State of Missouri in 1861. He resumed the practice of law in St. Louis, Missouri, and served as judge of the criminal court from 1889 to 1893. Jasper County is located in the southwest portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 122,761. Its county seat is Carthage, and its largest city is Joplin. Ephraim Brevard Ewing (1819 – June 21, 1873) was a justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri from 1859 to 1861 and from January 1873 until his death that summer.
