United Kingdom BSE Outbreak
The United Kingdom was afflicted with an outbreak of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, also known as "mad cow disease"), and its human equivalent variant Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (vCJD), in the 1980s and 1990s. Over four million head of cattle were slaughtered in an effort to contain the outbreak, and 178 people died after contracting vCJD through eating infected beef. A political and public health crisis resulted, and British beef was banned from export to numerous countries around the world, with some bans remaining in place until as late as 2019. The outbreak is believed to have originated in the practice of supplementing protein in cattle feed by meat-and-bone meal (MBM), which used the remains of other animals. BSE is a disease involving infectious misfolded proteins known as prions in the nervous system; the remains of an infected animal could spread the disease to animals fed on such a diet. Background Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is a neurodegenerativ ...

Deutsches Currywurst Museum
The Deutsches Currywurst Museum was a museum in Berlin dedicated to German currywurst sausage. The museum was located in Berlin-Mitte near Checkpoint Charlie and was the first and only museum about currywurst. The museum received approximately 350,000 visitors annually. The museum has been permanently closed since 21 December 2018. History The museum opened on 15 August 2009, 60 years after the invention of currywurst in 1949 by Berliner Herta Heuwer. Museum founder, Martin Löwer came up with the idea for the museum during a holiday trip to Jamaica. There he visited an exhibition about the yam root and started thinking about what food type would be as popular in Berlin. Löwer considered the currywurst to possess "cult status" in Germany and used the sausage's fame as justification to create the museum. Exhibit Patrons followed a "sauce trail" through the history of currywurst. The museum was interactive, with exhibits and displays aimed at engaging the senses of sight, ...

Currywurst Pommes Vw Autostadt Cylinder
Currywurst () is a fast food dish of German origin consisting of steamed, fried sausage, usually pork (german: Bratwurst), typically cut into bite-sized chunks and seasoned with curry ketchup, a sauce based on spiced ketchup or tomato paste topped with curry powder, or a ready-made ketchup seasoned with curry and other spices. The dish is often served with fries. History The invention of currywurst is attributed to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949, after she obtained ketchup (or possibly Worcestershire sauce) and curry powder from British soldiers in Germany. She mixed these ingredients with other spices and poured it over grilled pork sausage. Heuwer started selling the cheap but filling snack at a street stand in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, where it became popular with construction workers rebuilding the devastated city. She patented her sauce under the name "Chillup" in 1951. At its height the stand was selling 10,000 servings per week. She later opened a small ...

French Fries
French fries (North American English), chips (British English), finger chips ( Indian English), french-fried potatoes, or simply fries, are '' batonnet'' or ''allumette''-cut deep-fried potatoes of disputed origin from Belgium and France. They are prepared by cutting potatoes into even strips, drying them, and frying them, usually in a deep fryer. Pre-cut, blanched, and frozen russet potatoes are widely used, and sometimes baked in a regular or convection oven; air fryers are small convection ovens marketed for frying potatoes. French fries are served hot, either soft or crispy, and are generally eaten as part of lunch or dinner or by themselves as a snack, and they commonly appear on the menus of diners, fast food restaurants, pubs, and bars. They are often salted and may be served with ketchup, vinegar, mayonnaise, tomato sauce, or other local specialities. Fries can be topped more heavily, as in the dishes of poutine or chili cheese fries. French fries can be made from ...
