Vladimir Tarasov
Vladimir Ilich Tarasov (russian: Владимир Ильич Тарасов; born 7 February 1939 in Moscow) is a Russian animator and animation director. He is best known for his Soviet-era science fiction short films, such as ''The Pass, Contact'' and ''Contract'', among others. Biography He studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute (Moscow Fine Art and Design University) from 1965 until 1970. Since 1957 he worked at the studio Soyuzmultfilm first as an animator and then as an art director with V. Y. Bordzilovsky, M. A. Botov and V. D. Degtyaryov and then from 1970 till 1991 as the director. He is one of the founders of ''"Studio 13"'' and worked there as a director during the period 1991–1994. He was also an organizer and founder of the film schools iZee Institute of Creative Art(ZICA) in India (also a teacher and director in the period from 1995 to 1999) and Tarbiat Modares University in Iran from 2000 till 2004. Contact or Kontakt (russian: Контакт) is a 1978 Soviet animated short film. Plot A painter leaves the town and walks around countryside. While he is resting on the grass, humming the melody of ''Speak Softly Love'', a large spaceship lands near him. An alien exits the spaceship, photographs the environment and tries to contact the painter by changing his appearance to resemble nearby animals and objects and by touching him. The painter is frightened and tries to run away, but becomes tired, falls from a cliff and lies on the ground, imagining that the alien is going to lock him in a cage and torture him. The alien approaches the painter and tries to hum the same melody that the painter hummed earlier, but makes some mistakes. The painter understands that the alien is friendly, teaches him the correct melody, and they walk away together hand in hand. The film has no dialogue in any language. ''Well, Just You Wait!'' (russian: Ну, погоди!, Nu, pogodi!, p=ˈnu pəɡɐˈdʲi) is a Soviet, later Russian, series of animated short films produced by Soyuzmultfilm. In the 2014 all-Russian poll, ''Well, Just You Wait!'' won by a wide margin as people's favorite cartoon/animated series of all time. The most recent episode was produced in 2006. The series follows the comical adventures of Wolf (), trying to catch – and presumably eat – Hare (). It features additional characters that usually either help the hare or interfere with the Wolf's plans. The original film language is Russian, but very little speech is used, usually interjections or at most several sentences per episode. It is adapted from the first chapter titled ''The Pass'' from Bulychyov's novel :ru:Посёлок (роман), ''The Settlement'' (printed in English as ''Those Who Survive''). Plot On a distant, snow-covered planet, a starship from Earth crashes. Due to dangerous radiation levels, the survivors have to evacuate far away. Over years, the radiation levels go down but all attempting to return to the ship die when crossing a treacherous mountain pass, due to a combination of the elements and wild animals who come out at night.
