Vivere Pericoloso
''Vivere pericoloso'' (or in another source, ''vivere pericolosamente'' {{IPA-it, ˈviːvere perikoˌlozaˈmente}) is a phrase in the Italian language, which means "to live dangerously". Usually, the phrase is used for dangerous things, such as people living in dangerous areas because of disaster, and in fear of recurrence. In Indonesia, this phrase was popularized by Indonesia's first president Sukarno in 1964 when his state address on the 19th anniversary of the nation's independence was entitled ''Tahun Vivere Pericoloso'' (The Year of Living Dangerously, abbreviated as ''Tavip''), roughly a year before the coup attempt by the 30 September Movement. The title of the address inspired Christopher Koch, an Australian author, to write a novel published in 1978 titled '' The Year of Living Dangerously'', which was then made into a film with the same title. Sukarno
Sukarno). (; born Koesno Sosrodihardjo, ; 6 June 1901 – 21 June 1970) was an Indonesian statesman, orator, revolutionary, and nationalist who was the first president of Indonesia, serving from 1945 to 1967. Sukarno was the leader of the Indonesian struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialists. The Thirtieth of September Movement ( id, Gerakan 30 September, abbreviated as G30S, also known by the acronym Gestapu for ''Gerakan September Tiga Puluh'', Thirtieth of September Movement) was a self-proclaimed organization of Indonesian National Armed Forces members who, in the early hours of 1 October 1965, assassinated six Indonesian Army generals in an abortive ''coup d'état'', resulting in the unofficial but more accurate name of Gestok, for ''Gerakan Satu Oktober'', or First of October Movement. ''The Year of Living Dangerously'' is a 1978 novel by Christopher Koch in which an Australian journalist, a Chinese-Australian photojournalist and a British diplomat interact in Indonesia in the summer and autumn of 1965. Set primarily in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta, it also describes a partly fictionalized version of the events leading up to the coup attempt by the Communist Party of Indonesia on September 30, 1965. The novel's title refers to the Italian phrase ''vivere pericoloso''. It is roughly translated into English as "living dangerously".
