Vienna Schauspielhaus
Schauspielhaus Wien is a theatre in Vienna, Austria, located at 19 Porzellangasse in the 9th District of Vienna (Alsergrund). Tomas Schweigen has been the artistic director since 1 July 2015. The current ensemble is made up of three actresses and four actors from five European countries. History The history of the theatre extends back to the beginning of the 20th century, when there was a variety club located in the basement of 19 Porzellangasse. This was later adapted into one of Vienna's first cinemas and operated from 1913 to 1975 under the names ''Heimat-Kino'' ("Home Cinema") and ''Citta 2000'' (including a period during the Third Reich where it was cleared of non-Aryan control). Fritz Walden, real name Friedrich Drobilitsch, also Fritz Drobilitsch-Walden and Franz Drobilitsch, (3 January 1914 – 12 September 1992) was an Austrian publicist, author and cultural editor as well as film, literature, music and theatre critic. Life Born in Vienna, Walden studied several semesters German studies. Since the 1950s, he was cultural editor of the Viennese Arbeiter-Zeitung. He actively participated in cultural events, and in 1964 he was a founding member of the Vereins der Wiener Filmfestwochen, which took over the organization of the Vienna Film Festival Viennale, as it was now called, alongside Edwin Zbonek. George Tabori
George Tabori ( György Tábori; 24 May 1914 – 23 July 2007) was a Hungarian writer and theatre director. Life and career Tabori was born in Budapest as György Tábori, a son of Kornél and Elsa Tábori. His father Kornél (Cornelius) was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944, but his mother and his brother Paul Tabori (writer and psychical researcher), managed to escape the Nazis. As a young man, Tabori travelled to Berlin but was forced to leave Nazi Germany in 1935 because of his Jewish background. He first went to London, where he worked for the BBC and received British citizenship. In 1947 he emigrated to the United States, where he became a translator (mainly of works by Bertolt Brecht and Max Frisch) and a screenwriter including Alfred Hitchcock's movie '' I Confess'' (1953). Werner Schwab
Werner Schwab (4 February 1958 – 1 January 1994) was an Austrian playwright and visual artist. Biography From 1978 to 1982 he studied sculpture at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna. During the 1980s he worked as a sculptor and woodcutter. Schwab was a heavy drinker who was said to have written his plays late at night while listening to loud music (particularly the band Einstürzende Neubauten, whom he was friends with). His body was found on New Year's Day 1994. Work Schwab's first play ''Die Präsidentinnen'' (sometimes translates as ''First Ladies'' or ''Holy mothers''), was produced at the Theater im Künstlerhaus in Vienna in 1990.
