Vidar Johansen (musician)
Vidar Johansen (born 2 June 1953 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (tenor, soprano, baritone and alto saxophones, flute, bass clarinet), music arranger and composer. Biography Johansen is considered one of the most talented saxophonists emerging out of the Norwegian jazz scene in the 1970s. He started out early 1970 in a quartet with Jon Eberson, and collaborated with the Balke brothers. He also collaborated within Jon Balke, Jon Balke Quartet (1973–74), "The amateur big band" in Kongsberg (1974,) in the jazz-rock band "Adonis" (1974–75) and was recognized in his quartet led together with Erik Balke (1974–77), engaged at the Moldejazz (1975) and Vossajazz (1976). Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Tom Olstad (born 13 April 1953 in Gjøvik, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz drummer who has performed on many recordings. Career Olstad has lived in Oslo since 1973, when he started his musical studies at Østlandets Musikkonservatorium and University of Oslo, with a graduate thesis on the ''Jazz Life in Oslo at the 1980's'' (1992). Tine Asmundsen
Tine Asmundsen (born 8 April 1963) is a Norwegian jazz bassist, known from her own band, Lonely Woman, playing with David Murray at Kongsberg Jazzfestival 2010. Career Asmundsen was born in Kongsberg, Norway. She started playing bass in Kongsberg, with the «Kongsberg Storband» at «Kongsberg Jazzfestival», educated at the «Østnorsk Musikkonservatorium» and University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, among others under Richard Davis. Bjørnar Andresen
Bjørnar Andresen (1 April 1945 – 2 October 2004) was a Norwegian jazz musician (double bass, guitar, banjo), known for his improvisational and multicultural musical expression in a variety of publications. Career Andresen established the free jazz band "Finnerud Trio" with his childhood friend Svein Finnerud (1967–74), inspired by material they had experienced on concert with Paul Bley and Kent Carter in "Universitetets Aula", as well as the George Russell seminars in jazz theory. Jens Christian Bugge Wesseltoft (born 1 February 1964) is a Norwegian jazz pianist, composer, and producer, son of jazz guitarist Erik Wesseltoft. Career In 1989, Wesseltoft collaborated with the Knut Riisnæs Quartet and was soon after contacted by Arild Andersen to join in on commissioned work for Vossajazz—released on the album ''Sagn'' (1990)—and the follow-up ''Arv'' (1993). Ab und Zu (established 1987) is a Norwegian jazz band, originally named "Anne Marie Giørtz Quintet" (1982–1987), and presenting music written by Ole Henrik Giørtz. Biography The quintet comprised the siblings Anne-Marie Giørtz (vocals) and Ole Henrik Giørtz (piano), together with Vidar Johansen (saxophone), Audun Kleive (drums) and Olaf Kamfjord (bass). The first record release was ''Breaking out'' (1983), followed by ''Tigers of pain'' (1985), where drummer Audun Kleive was substituted for Finn Sletten. Kjell Karlsen
Kjell Oddvar Karlsen (29 July 1931 – 5 May 2020) was a Norwegian band leader, composer, arranger, jazz pianist and organist, and a Nestor of Norwegian music and show business, with a career spanning more than 60 years. He was the father of the singer Webe Karlsen. Career Karlsen was born in Sarpsborg. Inspired by the Nat King Cole jazz ensembles from the time of World War II, he started his own orchestra at the age of 16 in 1947, ''The Syncopators Band'', in Sarpsborg, and he soon became a central figure in the local jazz scene. Eivind Aarset (born 23 March 1961) is a Norwegian guitarist who has worked with Ray Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ute Lemper, Ketil Bjørnstad, Andy Sheppard, Mike Mainieri, Arild Andersen, Abraham Laboriel, Dhafer Youssef, Django Bates, and Nils Petter Molvaer. Lars Martin Myhre
Lars Martin Myhre (born 10 August 1956 in Tønsberg, Norway) (in Norwegian) is a Norwegian composer, guitarist, pianist, singer and producer residing in Sandefjord. He is best known for his collaboration with Odd Børretzen, (in Norwegian) but has for more than 30 years been involved in the musical life of Norway and has released a dozen albums, participated in or produced albums for other artists and composed film music, musicals and theater music. Odd Børretzen
Odd Lunde Børretzen (21 November 1926 – 3 November 2012) was a Norwegian author, illustrator, translator, and one of the most significant text writers, folk singers and artists in Norway. Biography Børretzen was born in Fister in the Hjelmeland municipality as the son of the preacher Jacob Børretzen. When Odd was three years old, his family moved to Grorud in Oslo; his childhood is related in the self-biographic ''Min barndoms verden'' (My Childhood World, 1997; filmed as '' Da jeg traff Jesus … med sprettert'', 2000).
