Bugge Wesseltoft
Jens Christian Bugge Wesseltoft (born 1 February 1964) is a Norwegian jazz pianist, composer, and producer, son of jazz guitarist Erik Wesseltoft. Career In 1989, Wesseltoft collaborated with the Knut Riisnæs Quartet and was soon after contacted by Arild Andersen to join in on commissioned work for Vossajazz—released on the album ''Sagn'' (1990)—and the follow-up ''Arv'' (1993). He worked with Jan Garbarek on his ''Molde Canticle'', a commission from Moldejazz, released on the 1990 album ''I Took Up the Runes''. Wesseltoft had an impact on the Norwegian jazz scene at the beginning of the 1990s while going through a transition from Nordic jazz traditions, exemplified by the ECM label, to a style sometimes referred to as "future jazz" or nu jazz. Erik Wesseltoft
Erik Wesseltoft (born 1944) is a Norwegian jazz guitarist and composer, married to pharmacist Randi Ersdal (1944–), and the father of jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft (1964–). Biography Wesseltoft was born in Porsgrunn. As a guitarist, he has played a modest but important role in Norwegian jazz and theater music. In 2004 his first album, ''Con Amore'', was released, and in 2013 the follow-up ''To Someone I Knew''. His world-famous son, Bugge Wesseltoft, contributes elpiano and piano on both records. Porsgrunn
is a city and municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Porsgrunn. The municipality of Porsgrunn was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The town of Brevik and the rural district of Eidanger were merged into the municipality of Porsgrunn on 1 January 1964. Kongsberg Jazz Festival or Kongsberg Jazzfestival is an international jazz festival that has been held annually in Kongsberg, Norway, since 1964. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. Nattjazz Festival
Bergen International Jazz Festival or Nattjazz, is one of the largest jazz festivals of Norway. The festival has a musical profile with an emphasis on ethnic and contemporary jazz. It is held annually in late May, coinciding with Festspillene i Bergen, and is located at Verftet in Bergen. Biography The festival was arranged for the first time in 1972 at ''Håndverkeren'' in Bergen (now closed). It moved to ''Studentsenteret'' in 1978 (now demolished and rebuilt), and eventually to ''USF Verftet'' in 1994. In 2012 Nattjazz was held in different localities in ''Vågsbunnen'' because of the reconstructions of ''USF Verftet''. During the course of the festival most concerts are held indoors, but with some outdoor concerts too. The festival has also collaborated with other events, such as Festspillene i Bergen in Grieghallen. Magnus Öström
Magnus Öström (born 3 May 1965) is a Swedish drummer, and known for being part of the first Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.). Biography Öström was the son of an artist couple, and was influenced by the musical tastes of his older brother like Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. At the age of eight years he built his first drum set and soon played music with a friend, Esbjörn Svensson. Since 1981, he attended the musical grammar school in Västerås and played with Svensson trio. Between 1983 and 1985, he studied at the adult education center in Sjövik before he continued his studies at the Music Academy Stockholm. During this time, he played with various bands of the Stockholm scene; between 1987 and 1992, he was a member of the band of singer Monica Borrfors. Dan Berglund
Dan Berglund (born 5 May 1963) is a Swedish musician who mainly plays the upright bass and is known within jazz and fusion. Biography Berglund was familiar with Swedish folk music as well as with pop and rock music. At the age of ten he started playing rock guitar, but later changed to bass guitar. As part of his musical training at the ''Birka Folkhögskola'' in Östersund he came to pick up the upright bass and played in the regional symphony orchestra, with whom he also had guest performances and first television appearances. In 1990 he moved to Stockholm to study at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan. There he played in the group '' Jazz Furniture '' and in the quintet of Lina Nyberg, where he met Esbjörn Svensson. ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. In 2015, Ricci said the site received a peak of 1.3 million readers per month in 2007. Another source said that the site has over 500,000 readers around the world. Ricci was born in Philadelphia. Vossajazz
Vossajazz or Vossa Jazz (established 19 December 1973) is an international jazz festival in Voss, Norway, which takes place annually during the week before Easter, and which also includes concerts throughout the year. The festival has been led by Trude Storheim since August 2007. History The first festival in 1974 was held the same weekend as the World Cup in Alpine skiing at Voss. The idea was that ski and jazz fit together. Since 1986 the festival has always taken place during the palm weekend. From 2007, the festival director has been Trude Storheim. In 1980 Vossajazz brought Rune Gustafsson and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen together for a power session in the old Voss cinema. This cooperation led to the album ''Just The Way You Are'' (1980).
