Victoria Park Mosque
Manchester Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre (also known as “Victoria Park Mosque”) is a mosque in Manchester, England. Sometimes referred to as Jamia Mosque, it is situated in the middle of Victoria Park, Manchester close to the Curry Mile. It plays a key role in Manchester's Muslim community. Imam and Khateeb Muhammad Arshad Misbahi and Qari Hafiz Javed Akhtar are leaders of the mosque. Qari Javed also leads taraweeh prayers in Ramadan. The Victoria Park Mosque began as two adjacent houses, one owned by the Syrian Textile Merchants operating in Manchester since the early 1900s, and the other owned by the mainly Indian community living in the nearby areas of Rusholme and Longsight. In 1971, the Jamiat-ul-Muslimeen, Manchester, commenced work on a purpose-built mosque in Victoria Park and the two houses were demolished and the "new look" Mosque took its current form. Sunni Islam
Sunni Islam () is the largest branch of Islam, followed by 85–90% of the world's Muslims. Its name comes from the word '' Sunnah'', referring to the tradition of Muhammad. Mosque
A mosque (; from ar, مَسْجِد, masjid, ; literally "place of ritual prostration"), also called masjid, is a place of prayer for Muslims. Victoria Park, Manchester
Victoria Park is a suburban area of Manchester, England. Victoria Park lies approximately two miles south of Manchester city centre, between Rusholme and Longsight. History and description In 1836, a unique enterprise was undertaken by Richard Lane and Partners, architects. This was to establish a residential area to the east of Wilmslow Road, an "estate" of substantial houses in spacious grounds, where prosperous business and professional families could live. Lane was already noted for his public work in the neo-classical style, for example his town hall building at Chorlton on Medlock. The facade of this building remains on the Manchester Metropolitan University All Saints' Campus and formed part of the Mabel Tylecote Building. Curry Mile
The Curry Mile is a nickname for the part of Wilmslow Road running through the centre of Rusholme in south Manchester, England. The name is earned from the large number of restaurants, takeaways and kebab houses specialising in the cuisines of South Asia and the Middle East, thought to be the largest concentration of South Asian restaurants in United Kingdom. The Curry Mile is notable for its streets being busy into the early hours of the morning. Muhammad Arshad Misbahi
Muhammad Arshad Misbahi, or Allama Maulana Hafiz Imam Muhammad Arshad al-Misbahi (born 1968, India) is the Chair of AKSA (Al-Karam Scholars Association) and has been serving at Manchester Central Mosque Victoria Park since 1997 as the Khatib, Imam and Headteacher. He is a graduate from the Islamic Seminary Al Jamiatul Ashrafia of India. He is considered by many to be among st the knowledgeable scholars of his time. Rusholme
Rusholme () is an area of Manchester, England, two miles south of the city centre. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 13,643. Rusholme is bounded by Chorlton-on-Medlock to the north, Victoria Park and Longsight to the east, Fallowfield to the south and Moss Side to the west. Longsight
Longsight is an inner city suburb of Manchester, England, located south of the city centre. It is bounded by Ardwick and West Gorton to the north; Levenshulme to the south; and Chorlton-on-Medlock, Victoria Park and Fallowfield to the west. Historically in Lancashire, it had a population of 15,429 at the 2011 census. Mohammed Amin (businessman)
Mohammed Amin is a British businessman who has been Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, an affiliated group within the British Conservative Party, since mid-2014. The Conservative Muslim chief is reported in June 2019 as having been expelled from the Tory Muslim group following his strong public criticism of the 'moral integrity' of Boris Johnson. He resigned from the Conservative Party on 23 July 2019 when Johnson was announced as the new leader.
