Vicatan
Vincente Doria Catan Jr., known by his pen name Vicatan (1948 – May 13, 2004), was a Filipino comics artist and novelist. Biography Vicente Doria Catan Jr. was born in the Philippines and worked in the studio of artist Nestor Redondo. After several years in the Filipino komiks industry, he began to work for U.S. comics publishers including DC Comics and Warren Publishing. Artist and comics historian Gerry Alanguilan noted that "Probably the closest of all estorRedondo's followers, Vicatan shared the great man's beautifully lush brush strokes but married that style to an ever-so-slightly humorous sensibility." With his pen name Vicatan, he made his U.S. comics debut with the story "Goodbye, Nancy" in '' House of Secrets'' #99 (Aug. 1972). ''Time Warp'' is the name of an American science fiction comics, science fiction comics anthology, comic book anthology series published by DC Comics for five issues from 1979 to 1980. A ''Time Warp'' one-shot was published by Vertigo (DC Comics), Vertigo in May 2013. Publication history In 1978, DC Comics intended to revive its science-fiction anthology series ''Strange Adventures''. These plans were put on hold that year due to the DC Implosion, a line-wide scaling back of the company's publishing output. When the project was revived a year later, the title was changed to ''Time Warp'' and the series was in the Dollar Comics format. The first issue was published with an October–November 1979 cover date. Michael Kaluta provided the cover art for the entire run. ''1984'' was an American black and white science-fiction comic magazine published in New York City by Warren Publishing from 1978 to 1983. ''1984'' was edited by Bill Dubay. The title of the magazine was changed to ''1994'' starting with issue #11 in February, 1980 based on a request by the estate of George Orwell. The magazine ceased publication with issue #29 in February, 1983 due to the bankruptcy of Warren Publishing. Comics in the Philippines ( fil, Komiks}) have been widespread and popular throughout the country from the 1920s to the present. Komiks were partially inspired by American mainstream comic strips and comic books during the early 20th century. The medium first became widely popular after World War II. Its mainstream appeal subsided somewhat during the latter part of the 20th century with the advent of other mass-media forms such as telenovelas, but experienced a renaissance in the mid-2010s with the increasing popularity of artists such as Gerry Alanguilan, Arnold Arre, Budjette Tan, Kajo Baldisimo, and the rise of fan communities through comic book conventions such as komikon. ''Othello'' (full title: ''The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice'') is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, probably in 1603, set in the contemporary Ottoman–Venetian War (1570–1573) fought for the control of the Island of Cyprus, a possession of the Venetian Republic since 1489. The port city of Famagusta finally fell to the Ottomans in 1571 after a protracted siege. The story revolves around two characters, Othello and Iago. Othello is a Moorish military commander who was serving as a general of the Venetian army in defence of Cyprus against invasion by Ottoman Turks. Eerie
''Eerie'' was an American magazine of horror comics introduced in 1966 by Warren Publishing. Like '' Mad'', it was a black-and-white magazine intended for newsstand distribution and did not submit its stories to the comic book industry's voluntary Comics Code Authority. Each issue's stories were introduced by the host character, Cousin Eerie. Its sister publications were ''Creepy'' and ''Vampirella''. Publication history The first issue cost 35¢, was published in September 1966 and only had a 200-issue run of an "ashcan" edition. ''The Savage Sword of Conan'' was a black-and-white magazine-format comic book series published beginning in 1974 by Curtis Magazines, an imprint of American company Marvel Comics, and then later by Marvel itself. ''Savage Sword of Conan'' starred Robert E. Howard's most famous creation, Conan the Barbarian, and has the distinction of being the longest-surviving title of the short-lived Curtis imprint. As a "magazine", ''Savage Sword of Conan'' did not have to conform to the Comics Code Authority, making it a publication of choice for many illustrators. Like ''Mad (magazine), Mad'', it was a black-and-white newsstand publication in a magazine format and did not carry the seal of the Comics Code Authority. An anthology magazine, it initially was published quarterly but later went bimonthly. Each issue's stories were introduced by the host character, Uncle Creepy.
