Via Apostolica
Via Apostolica is a missionary district in the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), comprising five parishes in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Despite being located in Canada, the missionary district clergy are canonically resident in the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Midwest, in the United States. Its founding bishop is Todd Atkinson, currently on a leave of absence while inhibited from episcopal ministry. History Via Apostolica was an independent church movement which started in 2012 and found continuity with the Anglican tradition. Via began partnering with the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) in 2014, when their clergy attended the diocese's synod that year. Through the efforts of ANiC's moderator bishop Charlie Masters, Via's bishop Todd Atkinson was welcomed into ACNA's College of Bishops on January 10, 2019. Quigg Lawrence
Raymond Quigg Lawrence Jr. (born 1959) is an American bishop of the Anglican Church in North America. He was consecrated in 2013 as bishop suffragan in the Atlantic coast network of PEARUSA, which in 2016 became the Anglican Diocese of Christ Our Hope. Since 1989, he has been rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Roanoke County, Virginia. Early life and education Lawrence was raised in Richmond, Virginia, the oldest of three children. His father, R. Quigg Lawrence Sr., was a Navy veteran and marketer who worked on the creative team that developed the Virginia Is for Lovers campaign. The elder Lawrence was also a recording studio executive who employed a young Bruce Springsteen, and music promoter, and his son worked as security for acts like David Bowie. The Anglican Diocese of the Upper Midwest is a diocese of the Anglican Church in North America. It includes about two dozen parishes in the American states of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, and South Dakota. The state with most parishes is Illinois, mostly near Chicago. Todd Atkinson
Todd Atkinson is a Canadian Anglican bishop. He is a bishop at the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and was the first bishop of Via Apostolica. He was consecrated a bishop on the Eve of the Ascension 2012. Atkinson was later admitted into ACNA's College of Bishops on January 10, 2019 then the next year, on June 24, 2020, Via Apostolica was accepted as a missionary district in ACNA. Education and career Atkinson grew up in the Canadian Prairies and became a Christian in his teen years. At the age of 18 Atkinson moved to the United Kingdom to train with an evangelist. At the age of 25 Atkinson began attending the University of Oxford studying theology and philosophy. After his studies he returned to Canada and served as president of Eston College. The Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) is a group of Anglican churches in Canada and the United States established in 2005 under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, a province of the Anglican Communion. It was a founding diocese of the Anglican Church in North America in June 2009. It comprises 74 parishes in nine Canadian provinces, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and two American states, Massachusetts and Vermont.
