Velocifero
''Velocifero'' is the fourth studio album by English electronic music band Ladytron and their first to be released by Nettwerk. The album was first released digitally on 19 May 2008, followed by a physical release on 2 June in the United Kingdom and on 3 June elsewhere. ''Velocifero'' peaked at number 75 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the band's second highest-charting album to date in the UK (after ''Gravity the Seducer'' reached number 72 in 2011). It was also their first album to chart on the US ''Billboard'' 200, reaching number 131. ''Velocifero'' spawned three singles: "Ghosts", "Runaway" and "Tomorrow". Background According to band member Reuben Wu, "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed", and is also the name of a classic retro-styled scooter. Ladytron are a largely British electronic band formed in Liverpool in 1999. The group consists of Helen Marnie (lead vocals, synthesizers), Mira Aroyo (vocals, synthesizers), Daniel Hunt (synthesizers, guitar, vocals), and Reuben Wu (synthesizers). They have released six studio albums: ''604'' (2001), ''Light & Magic'' (2002), ''Witching Hour'' (2005), ''Velocifero'' (2008), ''Gravity the Seducer'' (2011) and ''Ladytron'' (2019) - the seventh, ''Time's Arrow'' is due in January 2023. ''Gravity the Seducer'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music band Ladytron. It was released on 12 September 2011 by Nettwerk. Recorded in Kent, England, the album has been described as "haunted, evocative, romantic", and having "a feminine warmth". Three singles have been released from the album, "White Elephant", "Ambulances" and "Mirage". The song "Ace of Hz" had previously been released as a single from the greatest hits album ''Best of 00–10'' before appearing on ''Gravity the Seducer''. Daniel Hunt
Daniel Hunt (born 25 July 1974) is an English musician, songwriter and producer. He is a founding member, principal songwriter and producer of the electronic band Ladytron. Biography Hunt met Reuben Wu in Liverpool in 1995 and formed Ladytron with him in 1999, along with Mira Aroyo and Helen Marnie. In 2003, Hunt set up the Liverpool club, Evol and subsequently collaborated in 2005 on the celebrated Korova bar in the city. In addition to the band, he also DJ's around the world both solo and with other band members. His vocals are featured in the Ladytron' songs "International Dateline" and "Versus". Hunt has produced other artists such as Christina Aguilera, Marina Gasolina and Niue, and remixed Dave Gahan, Soulwax, Placebo, Simian, Paul Weller and Blondie. Reuben Wu
Reuben Wu (born 1975) is a British artist, photographer, musician, and industrial designer. He is also known as a keyboardist, songwriter, and producer for the electronic band Ladytron. Biography Reuben Wu was born in Liverpool in 1975, the son of Hongkonger immigrants. He trained in industrial design at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating in 1997. Meanwhile, he met Daniel Hunt in Liverpool in 1994; they formed Ladytron in 1999, along with Mira Aroyo and Helen Marnie. Wu finished his MSc in 1998 at the University of Liverpool. He worked as an industrial designer until going full-time with the band in 2002. Wu hand drew the artwork of the UK edition of Ladytron's first album ''604'' and began to document his travels on tour with the band via photography. His visual art career began in 2012 once the band took a break and he was able to focus full-time on his own creative output. Kiril Marichkov
Kiril Marichkov ( bg, Кирил Маричков, 30 October 1944 in Sofia) is a Bulgarian rock musician. Biography Marichkov was born in Sofia and played piano, clarinet, bass-guitar and guitar since young age. In 1963 he founded one of the first Bulgarian rock bands, the "Bandaracite" (''Бъндараците'') and in 1967 one of the most successful bands in Bulgaria during the 70s and 80s (with still many fans) - " Shturtzite" ("The Crickets", ''Щурците''). Since its foundation, Kiril Marichkov has been the frontman (lead vocal, bass guitar and keyboards) of the band. Alternative Hip Hop
Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap. Instead, they blur genres drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk."
