The family is large, with c.4250 known species spread across 124 genera, making it the 14th most species-rich family of flowering plants. The many well known and economically important members of the Ericaceae include the cranberry, blueberry, huckleberry, rhododendron (including azaleas), and various common heaths and heathers ('' Erica'', '' Cassiope'', '' Daboecia'', and ''Calluna'' for example). Description The Ericaceae contain a morphologically diverse range of taxa, including herbs, dwarf shrubs, shrubs, and trees. Their leaves are usually evergreen, alternate or whorled, simple and without stipules. Their flowers are hermaphrodite and show considerable variability. It is also with the Vaccinioideae subfamily and the Vaccinieae tribe. It is native to Ecuador. The genus name of ''Periclesia'' is in honour of Pericles (c. 490 BC – 429 BC), a Greek statesman and general during the Golden Age of Athens. The Latin specific epithet of ''flexuosa'' refers to ''flexuosus'' meaning twisted. Both the genus and the species were first described and published in Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. Vol.28 on page 357 in 1932. The genus is not recognised by United States Department of Agriculture and the Agricultural Research Service, they list it as a synonym of ''Ceratostema ''Ceratostema'' is a genus Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms as well as viruses. Gaylussacia
''Gaylussacia'' is a genus of about fifty species of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae, native to the Americas, where they occur in eastern North America and in South America in the Andes and the mountains of southeastern Brazil (the majority of the known species). Common English names include huckleberry (shared with plants in several other genera) and "dangleberry". ''Gaylussacia'' plants are often a component of an oak-heath forest. They are deciduous or evergreen shrubs growing to a height of . Ecology ''Gaylussacia'' species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) species including '' Coleophora gaylussaciella'' (which feeds exclusively on ''Gaylussacia'') and '' Coleophora multicristatella''. Classification ''Gaylussacia'' is named in honor of the French chemist Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac (1778–1850).
