VC Shakhtar Donetsk is a volleyball club from Donetsk. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Donetsk
Donetsk ( , ; uk, Донецьк, translit=Donets'k ; russian: Донецк ), formerly known as Aleksandrovka, Yuzivka (or Hughesovka), Stalin and Stalino (see also: Names of European cities in different languages (C–D), cities' alternative names), is an industrial city in eastern Ukraine located on the Kalmius River in Donetsk Oblast. Soviet Men's Volleyball Championship
The history of the USSR championships began on April 4, 1933. On that day the first matches among the national teams of the five cities were held at the Palace of Metalworkers in Dnepropetrovsk. These competitions, as well as the next three similar championships, were officially called the All-Union Volleyball Holidays. The USSR championships among club teams representing various voluntary sports societies and departments were held since 1938. In 1956, 1959, 1963 and 1967 the USSR champion title was played in the Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR. In 1937, 1941-1944 and 1964 there were no USSR Championship competitions. The Ukrainian Men's Volleyball Super League ( uk, Волейбольна Суперліга) is the top men's league of Ukrainian volleyball. It was founded in 1992. It is run by the Volleyball Federation of the Ukraine (FVU). Before, the Ukrainian teams played in the championship of the USSR, founded in 1933. During the seasons 1991/92-1999/00 called the Premier League ( uk, Волейбольна Вища ліга). Between leagues at the end of each season, the teams exchanged - the worst two (one - directly, the second - in the case of unsuccessful performance in the play-off matches) are eliminated in the relegation - they occupy a place of lower league teams. Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk ( uk, Футбольний клуб «Шахтар» Донецьк , short nickname "miners") is a Ukrainian professional football club from the city of Donetsk. In 2014, due to the War in Donbass, the club was forced to move to Lviv, and had played matches in Lviv (2014–2016) and in Kharkiv (2017–2020) whilst having its office headquarters and training facilities in Kyiv. In May 2020, Shakhtar started to play home matches at NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv. Shakhtar has appeared in several European competitions and is often a participant in the UEFA Champions League. The club became the first club in independent Ukraine to win the UEFA Cup in 2009, the last year before the competition was revamped as the Europa League.
