Volpino Italiano
The Volpino Italiano or Volpino is an Italian breed of dog of Spitz type. It is closely related to the Pomeranian and to the German Spitz. History Small Spitz-type dogs resembling the modern Volpino have been identified in a number of paintings, of which the earliest may be ''St. Augustine in His Study'' by Vittore Carpaccio, painted in the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni in Venice in 1502. The Florentine sculptor Michelangelo supposedly had such a dog. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries this type of dog was common in Tuscany, where it was known as the Cane di Firenze and was used as a guard dog by carters and shepherds, and in Lazio, where it was called the Cane del Quirinale. Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom visited Florence in 1888, and bought four dogs of Pomeranian or Spitz type. The , usually known as the ENCI, is the national organisation responsible for the recognition, standardisation and registration of pedigree dogs in Italy. It is sometimes called the Italian Kennel Club. The association provides judging for dog shows and many other services relating to dog showing. The club was founded in 1882 as the Kennel Club Italiano. It is a full member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. In 1992 it received the approval of the Ministero delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali, the Italian ministry of agriculture; it is the only organisation approved to register dog breeds. Ectopia lentis is a displacement or malposition of the eye's crystalline lens from its normal location. A partial dislocation of a lens is termed lens subluxation or subluxated lens; a complete dislocation of a lens is termed lens luxation or luxated lens. The Fédération cynologique internationale (FCI) (English: International Canine Federation) is the largest international federation of national kennel clubs. It is based in Thuin, Belgium. History The FCI was founded in 1911 under the auspices of the kennel clubs of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands, its objective was to bring global uniformity to the breeding, exhibiting and judging of pure-bred dogs.
