Vladimir Lorchenkov
Vladimir Lorchenkov (born 1979) is a Moldavian writer of Russian origin. He was born in Chisinau to a Soviet army officer father. His childhood took him all across the Communist world. Returning to Moldova, he studied journalism and worked for a decade as a crime reporter. He has published a dozen books, among them ''The Good Life Elsewhere'' which has been translated into English by Ross Ufberg. He has won numerous prizes for his work including the 2003 Debut Prize and the 2008 Russia Prize. He currently lives in Canada Canada is a country in North America. Moldovans
Moldovans, sometimes referred to as Moldavians ( ro, moldoveni , Moldovan Cyrillic: молдовень), are a Romance-speaking ethnic group and the largest ethnic group of the Republic of Moldova (75.1% of the population as of 2014) and a significant minority in Ukraine and Russia. Bessarabia, Transnistria and the diaspora originating from these regions, self-identified as Moldovans (another 7% of the population of Moldova self-identified as Romanians). Second World
The Second World is a term originating during the Cold War for the industrial socialist states that were under the influence of the Soviet Union. In the first two decades following World War II, 19 communist states emerged; all of these were at least originally within the Soviet sphere of influence, though some (notably Yugoslavia and China) broke with Moscow and developed their own path of socialism while retaining Communist governments.
