Vivian James Chalwin (1916–1980) was an English–Australian businessman, philanthropist, and football player and coach. Early life and time in England Chalwin was born in 1916 in Epsom, England to shopkeepers James Adolphus Chalwin and Rose Rosita Rowley. In his 30s, he moved to Sydney in Australia. Business career and time in Australia Chalwin was the chairman of British Oil Engines in Australia. He was fluent in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Epsom
Epsom is the principal town of the Borough of Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, England, about south of central London. The town is first recorded as ''Ebesham'' in the 10th century and its name probably derives from that of a Saxon landowner. The earliest evidence of human activity is from the mid-Bronze Age, but the modern settlement probably grew up in the area surrounding St Martin's Church in the 6th or 7th centuries and the street pattern is thought to have become established in the Middle Ages.
