Vitālijs Samoilovs
Vitālijs Samoilovs (russian: Виталий Анатольевич Самойлов; born 17 April 1962) is a former Latvian professional ice hockey player who played in the Soviet Hockey League. Ethnically Russian, he played for HC Dynamo Riga, Dynamo Riga and Sokil Kyiv. The best season of his career was 1987-88, in which he made the USSR national ice hockey team, Soviet National Team. He was the third-string goaltender at the 1987 Canada Cup and didn't appear in any games. He did, however, play in one game for the gold-medal-winning Soviet team at the ice hockey at the 1988 Winter Olympics, 1988 Winter Olympics. Also that season, he backstopped Riga to a surprising second-place finish in the Championship League. The following year, however, an injury caused him to lose his starting job in Riga to upstart Arturs Irbe and he never again regained his top form. Dinamo Riga ( lv, Rīgas Dinamo) was a Soviet ice hockey club, based in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 1946 and disestablished in 1995 as Pārdaugava Rīga. In 1949 to 1963 Dinamo Riga was joined with Daugava sports society which was sponsored by Riga's factories VEF and then RVR. History of Dinamo Riga Dinamo Riga was established in 1946, after the re-occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union. It was a part of Dynamo sports society sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Interior and the national security structures including the KGB. The club was one of the 12 teams which participated in the first Soviet championship in the 1946–47 season. The team's first official game was a victory 5–1 against Dinamo Tallinn in December 1946.
