Virtual math manipulatives are visual representations of concrete math manipulatives. They are digitally accessed through a variety of websites or apps through tablets, phones and computers. Virtual math manipulatives are modeled after concrete math manipulatives that are commonly used in classrooms to concretely represent abstract mathematical concepts and support student understanding of mathematical content. The most common manipulatives include: ''base ten blocks, coins, blocks, tangrams, rulers, fraction bars, algebra tiles, geoboards, geometric plane, and solids figures.'' Base ten blocks, also known as multibase arithmetic blocks (MAB) or Dienes blocks (after their creator, mathematician and educationalist Zoltán Pál Dienes), are a mathematical manipulative used by students to learn basic mathematical concepts including addition, subtraction, number sense, place value and counting. Computable Document Format (CDF) is an electronic document format designed to allow authoring dynamically generated, interactive content. CDF was created by Wolfram Research, and CDF files can be created using Mathematica. As of 2021, the Wolfram Research website lists CDF as a "legacy" format. Features Computable Document Format supports GUI elements such as sliders, menus, and buttons. Content is updated using embedded computation in response to GUI interaction. Geoboard
A geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry such as perimeter, area and the characteristics of triangles and other polygons.
