"Virile" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Moses Sumney. It was released on November 14, 2019, as the lead single from his second studio album '' Græ'' through Jagjaguwar. The song was written by Sumney alongside industrial rock duo, Yvette, consisting of Noah Kardos-Fein and Dale Eisinger. It was produced by Sumney, with additional production by Andrew Chugg, Ben Baptie, and electronic musician Oneohtrix Point Never under his real name, Daniel Lopatin. Composition The track explores about the concept of masculinity. As described by Elizabeth Aubrey of ''NME'', lyrically, through this song Sumney "thrashes against the status quo" as stated with lines: "You've got the wrong guy / You wanna slip right in / Amp up the masculine / You've got the wrong idea, son." Moses Sumney
Moses Sumney is a Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter. His self-recorded EP, ''Mid-City Island'', was released in 2014. He released another five-song EP in 2016, titled ''Lamentations''. His first full-length album, ''Aromanticism'', was released in September 2017. His second studio album, ''Græ'', was released in 2020. Sumney has performed as an opening act for James Blake, Solange Knowles, and Sufjan Stevens. Early life Born in California, Sumney was raised by pastor parents, and moved with his family back to Ghana at the age of 10. He described his childhood as "Americanized" by this age and had difficulty adjusting to the culture of Ghana, especially the rural nature of his new environment. Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School through 10th grade, before moving with his family to Moorestown, New Jersey. He completed high school at Moorestown Friends School, graduating in 2000. Moose studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He began a master's program in American studies at Columbia University, but left to join Antony and the Johnsons on tour in 2005. Nubya Nyasha Garcia (born 1991) is an English jazz musician, saxophonist, composer and bandleader. Early life and education Garcia was born in 1991 in Camden Town, London, the youngest of four siblings, to a Guyanese mother, a former civil servant, and a British Trinidadian filmmaker father. Garcia followed her three older siblings to the local Camden Saturday Music Centre at the age of 5, where she first learned the violin and later played the viola in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO). It is a concept album about "lovelessness as a sonic dreamscape" that "seeks to interrogate the idea that romance is normative and necessary." The record was written and produced by Sumney, with assistance from numerous musicians. It features new versions of two previously-released songs, "Plastic" and "Lonely World".
