The following is a list of former primary state highways completely or mostly within the Staunton District (VDOT District 8) of the U.S. state of Virginia. SR 59 State Route 59 connected West Virginia Route 59 to Woodstock, continuing east about to near Mine Mountain Road in the George Washington National Forest, across Woodstock Gap from Fort Valley. State Route 47 (SR 47) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 1 (US 1) and US 58 Business in South Hill north to US 460 Business in Pamplin City, Virginia. SR 47 passes through Southside Virginia, where the highway connects the towns of Chase City in Mecklenburg County and Drakes Branch and Charlotte Court House in Charlotte County. The entire length of SR 47 is a Virginia Byway. Route description SR 47 begins at the intersection of Mecklenburg Avenue and Atlantic Street in the center of South Hill. Virginia State Route 24
State Route 24 (SR 24) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 221 (US 221) and SR 116 in Roanoke east to US 60 in Mt. Rush. SR 24 connects Roanoke with several small communities in southern Bedford County and central Campbell County. The state highway also runs concurrently with US 460 west of Appomattox and passes through Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, which is the site of Robert E. Lee's final stand and surrender in the American Civil War. Route description SR 24 begins at an intersection with US 221 and SR 116 at the southern edge of downtown Roanoke.
