Virginia Senate, District 10
Virginia's 10th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. The district was represented by Republican Party (United States), Republican John McGuire (Virginia politician), John McGuire, following its creation after re-districting. However, McGuire resigned on January 3, 2025 to become the United States representative for Virginia's 5th congressional district. A special election was held to finish the remainder of McGuire's term which was won by Luther Cifers. Geography District 10 is located in the Greater Richmond Region, covering much of the Richmond, Virginia, City of Richmond as well as all of Powhatan County, Virginia, Powhatan County and parts of Chesterfield County, Virginia, Chesterfield County. John Watkins (Virginia Politician, Born 1947)
John Chewning Watkins (born March 1, 1947) is a Virginia businessman and politician, who served in the Virginia General Assembly for 34 years. The 2011 Virginia state elections took place on November 8, 2011. All 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly were up for re-election, as were many local offices. Virginia Senate Prior to the election, Democrats held 22 seats, and Republicans held 18 seats. Redistricting caused the 13th district to be moved from Hampton Roads to Northern Virginia and the 22nd district to be moved from the Roanoke area to a district stretching from Lynchburg to Richmond. Glen Howard Sturtevant Jr. (born September 14, 1982) is an American lawyer and Republican politician, serving as a member of the Senate of Virginia (a part-time position) since 2024, as well as from 2016 to 2020.
