Virgin Peak
Virgin Peak is the highest point of Virgin Mountain range, located northeast of Lake Mead, in the state of Clark County, Nevada, United States. The peak has an elevation of 8074 ft (2461 m) and a prominence of 3183 ft (970 m). The peak is part of the Gold Butte National Monument, northeast of Las Vegas. Geography The peak is located nine miles from the city of Mesquite. The terrain around the peak is very rugged and rocky, thus few hikers visit. Many red rock formations can be viewed while exploring the peak. The south ridge is the preferred route hikers choose. The mountain's ridge is mostly formed out of carbonate rock. Virgin Mountains
The Virgin Mountains are a mountain range of the northeastern Mojave Desert, located in Clark County, southeastern Nevada and Mohave County, northwestern Arizona. Lake Mead is a reservoir formed by the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in the Southwestern United States. It is located in the states of Nevada and Arizona, east of Las Vegas. It is the largest reservoir in the US in terms of water capacity. Gold Butte National Monument
Gold Butte National Monument is a United States national monument located in Clark County, Nevada, northeast of Las Vegas and south of Mesquite and Bunkerville. The monument protects nearly 300,000 acres of desert landscapes featuring a wide array of natural and cultural resources, including rock art, sandstone towers, and important wildlife habitat for species including the Mojave Desert tortoise (a threatened species), bighorn sheep, and mountain lion. The area also protects historic ranching and mining sites such as the ghost town of Gold Butte, although little but mine openings, cement foundations, and a few pieces of rusting equipment remains. Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States adjacent to the Arizona state line and northeast of Las Vegas on Interstate 15. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 20,471.
