Vin De Dance (foaled 13 September 2014, died 2021) is a New Zealand racehorse, part-owned by Australian syndicators OTI Racing. As a three-year-old, he won the 143rd running of the New Zealand Derby. Background Vin De Dance is a bay gelding by Roc de Cambes out of the San Luis mare Explosive Dancer. He was bred by Explosive Breeding Ltd, and he was a $70,000 purchase at the Ready to Run Sale at Karaka. Racing career Vin De Dance made his debut on 6 September 2017 in a 1200-metre race on a heavy track at Pukekohe Park, winning by a length and three-quarters. He finished second in his next two starts, then travelled to Melbourne for a third at Flemington and a fifth in the Moonee Valley Vase. He resumed in late January with a fourth over 1400 metres, then finished sixth over 1600 metres and third in the Avondale Guineas. Murray Baker
Murray Baker (born 21 April 1946) is a New Zealand thoroughbred racehorse trainer and former New Zealand cricketer. Cricket Baker played in one List A and seventeen first-class matches for Central Districts and Northern Districts from 1966 to 1975. Baker was part of the team who won the Plunket Shield and played for Huddersfield in England. Horse training Baker started training at Woodville in the 1970s. His first raceday winner was Vizier on October 4 1978, at Otaki. Another early winner was Sir Vigilant in the 1985 New Zealand St. Leger. In 2000 Murray moved his training operation to Cambridge. The New Zealand Derby is a set-weights Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds, run over a distance of 2,400 metres (12 furlongs) at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland, New Zealand. It is held on the first Saturday in March, as the opening day of Auckland Cup Week. The purse of the race in 2020 was $1 million. Pukekohe Park is a horse racing, motor racing, and community events facility located in Pukekohe, New Zealand, approximately south of the Auckland CBD, in the Auckland Region of the North Island. The venue, owned by Counties Racing Club Inc. is used seven days a week for horse training, driver training, motor sport events, cycling and various events and functions. 2018 New Zealand Derby
The 2018 New Zealand Derby was a horse race which took place at Ellerslie Racecourse on Saturday 3 March 2018. It was the 143rd running of the New Zealand Derby, and it was won by Vin De Dance. Vin De Dance was offered at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale as a two-year-old, but was passed in.
