Vimont, Quebec
Vimont is a district in the centre of Laval, Quebec. It was a separate city until the municipal mergers on August 6, 1965. Until 1960 the name was Saint-Elzéar. Geography Vimont is delimited north-west by Sainte-Rose, north-east by Auteuil, east by Duvernay, south-west by Chomedey and south-east by Pont-Viau. Features The Cité de la Santé de Laval, Laval's main hospital is located in Vimont, as is the Vimont Commuter Train station. Vimont has one hockey arena in the area, the Lucerne arena. Vimont (electoral District)
Vimont is a provincial electoral district in the Laval region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It consists of part of the city of Laval. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Fabre and Mille-Îles electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost much of its territory to the newly created Sainte-Rose electoral district, but gained some territory to the east from Mille-Îles. Vimont (AMT)
Vimont station is a commuter rail station operated by Exo in Laval, Quebec, Canada. It is served by the Saint-Jérôme line. The station is in ARTM fare zone B, and currently has 200 parking spaces. Prior to the reform of the ARTM's fare structure in July 2022, it was in zone 3. History CP Service There was previously a Canadian Pacific Railway station called "Petite-Cote" at this location. AMT Service The station was opened on October 18, 2006, by the former Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT) following growing demand for service following the collapse of the De la Concorde overpass in Laval. The station has since become a permanent stop on the line. Between 2011 and 2013, the double track was extended north through the station, requiring the construction of a second side platform. Vimont Lake
The Vimont Lake is a freshwater body of the Lac-Ashuapmushuan, Quebec unorganized territory in the northwestern part of the Regional County Municipality (MRC) Le Domaine-du-Roy, in the administrative region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, in province of Quebec, in Canada. This lake extends almost entirely in the canton of Vimont, except the northern part Rinfret. Forestry is the main economic activity of the sector. Recreational tourism activities come second. A forest road serves the eastern part of the lake; road R0210 (North-South direction) serves the western part from the South where it connects to the forest road Route 167 connecting Chibougamau to Saint-Félicien, Quebec. The Canadian National Railway runs along this road. The surface of Vimont Lake is usually frozen from early November to mid-May, however, safe ice circulation is generally from mid-November to mid-April. Barthélemy Vimont
Barthélemy Vimont (January 1, 1594 – July 13, 1667) was a French Jesuit missionary in New France, North America. Biography Born at Lisieux, he entered the Society of Jesus at Rouen in 1613. After his novitiate, he studied philosophy at the Collège at La Flèche where he was a student of Énemond Massé, a Jesuit missionary newly returned from New France. Father Vimont first arrived in North America as part of a flotilla of four ships and a bark commanded by Charles Daniel in August 1629. Caught in a storm off the Newfoundland Banks, the ships were scattered with one ship carrying Vimont and the Captain making it to Cape Breton Island. Fort Sainte Anne was established and Vimont began his missionary work but was recalled to France the following year. In 1639, Father Vimont returned to the New World, this time to Quebec to become third superior of the Jesuit Mission in Canada, succeeding Father Paul Le Jeune. Pierre Vimont (born 15 June 1949) is a French diplomat who served as the Executive Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) from 2010 until 2015. His current rank in the French civil service is "Ambassadeur de France", which is properly not a rank but a "dignity" bestowed upon a diplomat for life (unlike the other career ranks which cease to produce effect upon retirement or otherwise leaving the foreign service).
