Villa Unión Municipality
Villa Unión is one of the 38 municipalities of Coahuila, in north-eastern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Villa Unión. The municipality covers an area of 1540.3 km². As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 6,138. Villa Unión is a city in northwestern Argentina and the main settlement of Coronel Felipe Varela Department with a population of 12,263. Overview The city is strategically located in the heart of the Bermejo Valley, 1,153 meters above sea level, at the foothills of the Andes mountains. Beautifully set midst the intense red mountain ranges of Sierra de Famatina and Sierra de Maíz, surrounded by local, traditional wineries and the Bermejo River running, often brutally in the rainy season, through the city. 2019 Villa Unión Shootout
On 30 November 2019, a shootout broke out in Villa Unión, Coahuila between a drug cartel A drug cartel is any criminal organization with the intention of supplying drug trafficking operations. They range from loosely managed agreements among various drug traffickers to formalized commercial enterprises. The term was applied when the ..., suspected to be the Cartel del Noreste, and police. Cartel forces attacked with a convoy of armed pickup trucks around noon. Villa Unión's town hall, the intended recipient of the attack, was targeted because it is the headquarters of the town's police force, leaving it badly damaged. Unverified videos showed smoke rising from the city. Vehicles were stolen and several civilians were kidnapped by the cartel during their retreat.
