Vilhelm Bjerke Petersen
Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen (December 24, 1909 - September 13, 1957) was a Danish painter, writer, and art theorist. Life Born in Copenhagen, he studied under Axel Revold at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1927 to 1929, and then under Paul Klee Paul Klee (; 18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was a Swiss-born German artist. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. Johannes Rian
Johannes "Johs" Rian (17 May 1891 – 10 December 1981) was a Norwegian painter. Johs Rian was born in Overhalla in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. He was a son of farmers Peter Rian (1856–1934) and Elen Blengslien (1864–1952). He also worked at the family farm, but left this career in 1927 to pursue painting. He studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1928 to 1930 under Axel Revold. He was also inspired by Henrik Sørensen, and Revold's teacher Henri Matisse. In 1936 he married his secretary Ellen Gjønnæs (1903–1961). In 1950, Rian was provided with a Thomas Fearnley Memorial Scholarship and traveled to the south of France. Rian exhibited at the contemporary art gallery Kunstnerforbundet in Oslo several times between 1930 and 1957, and also at the São Paulo Biennal in 1967/68. Axel Revold
Axel Revold (24 December 1887 – 11 April 1962) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator, and art professor at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts for twenty years. He was highly decorated for his merits. Personal life Revold was born in Ålesund as the son of merchant Julius Revold and Johanne Hjelpsten. He was married to Ingrid Müller from 1915 to 1928. From 1929 he was married to painter Irmelin Nansen, the daughter of Fridtjof Nansen and Eva Nansen. He is the father of artist Dagny Hald. He died in Bærum in 1962. Career Revold initiated engineering studies in Kristiania in 1906, and also followed evening courses at Den kgl. Tegneskole in Kristiania. In 1908 he discontinued his engineering education and moved to Paris as a student of Henri Matisse for two years. He was also inspired by Paul Cézanne and Kees van Dongen. Bjarne Rise (June 18, 1904 in Minneapolis, United States – September 30, 1984 in Oslo) was a Norwegian painter. Biography Background Bjarne Rise was born in Minneapolis, United States of Norwegian parents. When he was five years old, the family moved back to his home village of Oppdal where he had his upbringing. Autumn of 1925, he moved to Oslo where he first went on the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. After that he studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts first in 1927 and later, in 1932-1933 with Axel Revold, in 1935-1936 with Georg Jacobsen.
