Vilenica Prize
Vilenica International Literary Festival ( sl, Mednarodni literarni festival Vilenica) is a festival dedicated to literature that was founded in 1986 in Slovenia. It takes place annually in several locations on the Karst Plateau in the Slovene Littoral, including inside Vilenica Cave. It is arranged by the Slovene Writers' Association together with the Cultural Centre Vilenica from Sežana. The highlight of the festival is the awarding of the Vilenica International Literary Prize to a Central European author for "outstanding achievements in the field of literature and essay writing." Background and events The festival was arranged for the first time in 1986 and was co-founded by Veno Taufer, who is still a member of the prize awarding jury. Vilenica Cave
Vilenica Cave or Vilenica Cave at Lokev ( sl, Jama Vilenica pri Lokvi) is the oldest show cave in Europe. The first tourists to the cave were recorded in 1633. It is located next to the village of Lokev in the municipality of Sežana on the Karst Plateau in southwestern Slovenia. Natural environment Vilenica Cave is more than in length, with a depth of , but tourists are only allowed into the first of the cave. Fulvio Tomizza
Fulvio Tomizza (26 January 1935 – 21 May 1999) was an Italian writer. He was born in Giurizzani di Materada in Istria, to a middle-class family. His mother was Margherita Frank Trento, born into a poor family of Slavic extraction. His father, Ferdinando, reportedly was from an ancient family of southern Dalmatian Italian origins (reportedly, his ancestor's name was Zorzi Giurizzano, and he allegedly came to Istria in the 16th century from Dalmatia). Tomizza grew up in a zone where the dialect was mixed (Venetian mixed with Slavic words or Slavic mixed with Venetian words). He completed high school at the Italian Liceo "Carlo Combi" of Capodistria (now Koper, in Slovenia). After the diploma, he had experiences of study and work in Yugoslavia (Faculty of humanities in Belgrade and the shooting of a movie in Ljubljana). Å tanjel
Å tanjel (; it, San Daniele del Carso) is a village in the Municipality of Komen in the Littoral region of Slovenia. It is located on the Karst Plateau overlooking the Vipava Valley. In the 17th century it was fortified to defend it against Ottoman raids. It was heavily damaged during World War II and it has been slowly rebuilt since. History Because of its geographical location it has been an important settlement in the area since the Iron Age. The development of the settlement reached its peak in the Romanesque period, although Gothic elements in architecture have also been preserved. During World War II the village served as a smaller base for the German occupation units, and was heavily damaged during the Allied bombing at the end of the war. The Cúirt International Festival of Literature (pronounced ) is an annual literary festival held since 1985 in Galway in Ireland. The Irish language word ''cúirt'' means "court". The festival consists of a variety of events taking place over the course of a week each April with attendances and contributions from Irish and international writers.
