Viking FM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Sheffield, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to the East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 175,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Technical The station is transmitted from the High Hunsley transmitter on the Yorkshire Wolds, near North Cave, sharing the 200 ft tower with Capital Yorkshire and BBC Radio Humberside, as well as on the Bauer Humberside DAB multiplex from three transmitters, located at High Hunsley, Buckton Barn near Bridlington and Grimsby town centre. Capital Yorkshire is a regional radio station owned by Global Media & Entertainment, Global as part of the Capital (radio network), Capital network. It broadcasts to South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire from studios in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Pennine Radio (radio Station)
Pennine Radio was the original name for what is now Pulse 1 in Bradford, the independent local radio station for West Yorkshire, England. It was launched on 16 September 1975. History Pennine Radio was the idea of Steve Harris and Terry Bate, the latter being a founding member of Metro Radio in Newcastle and Radio Trent in Nottingham. Its first presenter was Steve Merike and the first record played was Honeybus', 'I Can't Let Maggie Go'. Other original presenters on "Pennine 235" were Peter Levy, Stewart Francis, Roger Kirk, Julius K. Hallam FM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Sheffield, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to South Yorkshire. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 283,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History The station started broadcasting on 1548 kHz/194m AM, 95.2 and 95.9 MHz FM under the name of Radio Hallam from its studios at Hartshead in Sheffield City Centre on 1 October 1974. The first presenter heard on air was ex-BBC Radio 1 DJ Johnny Moran - the first record he played was ''I've Got the Music in Me'' by Kiki Dee, which stuck after a minute and a half. On 1 October 1985, Radio Hallam's broadcast area significantly increased when it began to broadcast to all of South Yorkshire. Yorkshire Radio Network
The Yorkshire Radio Network was a group of three radio stations which shared programmes in the evening and at weekends. YRN was made-up of Pennine Radio (radio station), Pennine Radio in Bradford, 96.9 Viking FM, Viking Radio in Kingston upon Hull, Hull and Hallam FM, Radio Hallam in Sheffield. History YRN was based at Hartshead in Sheffield at Radio Hallam, although all of the live programmes came from Studio 2 at Viking Radio in Hull. The company came about when Radio Hallam merged with Pennine Radio and later took over Viking Radio and the Yorkshire Radio Network began broadcasting on 18 May 1987. In 1989 all of the three radio stations' medium wave frequencies were used to form a new service called Classic Gold. Greatest Hits Radio East Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire is a local radio station serving East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. The station was replaced by a relay of Magic UK, as part of a restructure, on 1 September 2020. On 19 September 2022 GHR Hull & East Yorkshire became part of the Nation Radio network, and was relaunched as Nation Radio East Yorkshire following the end of the licensing name agreement which had allowed GHR to broadcast on the Nation-owned licence. Kool & the Gang is an American R&B/soul/funk band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, with Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, and Ricky West.
