Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC) is a school district that serves Vigo County, Indiana and is headquartered in Terre Haute. The corporation is led by superintendent Robert Haworth http://metadot.vigoschools.org/metadot/index.pl?id=20108 and by the Board of Trustees including: President; Joseph Irwin III, Vice President; Dr. Susan Powers, Secretary; Jackie Lower, Mel Burks, Paul Lockhart, Rosemarie Scott, Joni Wise. Western Indiana Conference
The Western Indiana Conference is the name of two IHSAA-sanctioned conferences based in West Central Indiana. The first formed as an eight-team league that formed as a basketball league in 1944 as the West Central Conference. The league started expanding in 1945 and changed its name to the Western Indiana Conference. With consolidation forcing many membership changes in the 1970s (including all the Terre Haute public schools), the conference folded at four members in 1983. The second incarnation started in 1999, including four previous members (or their current incarnations) from the old conference, and three other schools from South Central Indiana. Its only change in membership in its first 16 years was in football, where South Vermilion played independently for the 2007 and 2008 seasons before rejoining the conference. West Vigo High School
West Vigo High School is a public high school located in West Terre Haute, Indiana. As the name implies, the school's district covers the western portion of Vigo County. It is the only school in Indiana that has a dome, called the Green Dome. The middle school is connected with the high school. Terre Haute South Vigo High School is a public high school located in Terre Haute, Indiana. As the name implies, the school's district covers the southern portion of Terre Haute, as well as most of southern Vigo County, the county in which Terre Haute is located. The school is located at 3737 S 7th St, Terre Haute, Indiana 47802. History It was first constructed in 1971 along with Terre Haute North Vigo High School. It is located near the northern edge of Honey Creek Township at 7th and Davis streets. Most of the school is one story. It contains Terre Haute's only planetarium, the Allen Memorial Planetarium. Conference Indiana
Conference Indiana (CI) is an athletic conference within the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Conference Indiana was initially formed from the union of surviving members of the Central Suburban Athletic Conference (CSAC) and the South Central Conference (SCC) after the departure of members to the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC). Original membership included all six non-MIC township schools in Indianapolis (Decatur Central, Pike, Lawrence Central, Franklin Central, Southport, and Perry Meridian high schools). Also included were the four largest non-MIC high schools in south central Indiana at the time of conference formation: Columbus North, Bloomington South, Bloomington North, and Martinsville high schools. The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. Only football has 6 classes. Boys' basketball, girls' basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball are divided into four classes. Gilbert Brown Wilson
Gilbert Brown Wilson (1907–1991), best known as "Gil Wilson," was an American painter known for his large-scale murals, including his 1935 murals in Woodrow Wilson Junior High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. Much of his later life was dedicated to depicting Herman Melville's ''Moby Dick''. In 1955 a short film using this body of artwork won a Silver Reel Award at the Venice Film Festival. Early life Wilson was born on March 4, 1907, in Terre Haute to parents Martha and Wilton A. Wilson, a banker. He attended McLean Junior High and graduated from Garfield High School in 1925. As an active Boy Scout, Gilbert Wilson held a fifteen-year veteran pin and achieved a Silver Eagle rank. Education Wilson attended Indiana State Normal (now Indiana State University) and studied under professor of art William T. Turman. Tudor Revival architecture (also known as mock Tudor in the UK) first manifested itself in domestic architecture in the United Kingdom in the latter half of the 19th century. Based on revival of aspects that were perceived as Tudor architecture, in reality it usually took the style of English vernacular architecture of the Middle Ages that had survived into the Tudor period.
