Indiana High School Athletic Association
The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. Only football has 6 classes. Boys' basketball, girls' basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball are divided into four classes. Boys' and girls' soccer have featured three classes since the 2017–18 school year. All other sports compete in a single class. Conference Indiana
Conference Indiana (CI) is an athletic conference within the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Conference Indiana was initially formed from the union of surviving members of the Central Suburban Athletic Conference (CSAC) and the South Central Conference (SCC) after the departure of members to the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC). Original membership included all six non-MIC township schools in Indianapolis (Decatur Central, Pike, Lawrence Central, Franklin Central, Southport, and Perry Meridian high schools). Also included were the four largest non-MIC high schools in south central Indiana at the time of conference formation: Columbus North, Bloomington South, Bloomington North, and Martinsville high schools. Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference
The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference or MIC is a secondary or more commonly used, high school athletic conference based in the Indianapolis Metropolitan area of Indiana. The conference was formed in 1996 in a time when independent schools joined schools with other existing conferences that were reorganizing or splitting up to form new conferences due to the initiation of class basketball. In recent years, the MIC has been recognized nationally as a superior secondary athletic conference to participate in athletics. The MIC also competes in other areas besides athletics. For example, there is a MIC choir competition and a MIC speech and debate tournament, as well as MIC Academic Challenge. On December 13, 2021, the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference voted Carmel and Center Grove out of the MIC as the two schools had flirted with a move to the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. Indianapolis Public School Conference
The Indianapolis Public Schools Athletic Conference was an athletic conference consisting of high schools in the Indianapolis Public Schools district. The demise of the conference came in 2018, as four of the seven remaining schools closed in a span of two years, leaving only three schools left, one of which (Howe) is a charter school, and another (Manual) under state control (IPS has stated those two schools will close if returned to school board control). Instead, those two schools joined the Greater Indianapolis Conference, leaving George Washington as an independent. Membership # Shortridge was closed as a high school between 1981 and 2009. Hoosier North Athletic Conference
The Hoosier North Athletic Conference is an IHSAA-sanctioned conference in northwestern Indiana, that began in 2015. The conference contains eight schools in six counties (Cass, Fulton, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, and Starke), but may expand to include more schools in the future. History *2015: The Hoosier North Athletic Conference (HNAC) was formed by schools from the Northern State Conference (Culver, Knox, LaVille, and Triton), Midwest Conference (Caston, Pioneer, West Central, and Winamac), and then independent North Judson-San Pierre. Hoosier Heartland Conference
The Hoosier Heartland Conference is an IHSAA-Sanctioned Athletic Conference in North Central Indiana. It comprises mainly single A and smaller AA schools. Lafayette Central Catholic joined the Hoosier Athletic Conference after the 2010–11 school year, and was replaced by Sheridan, who joined 2012. The Hoosier Crossroads Conference is a member conference of the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Teams first competed in the conference in the 2000-2001 school year. The Hoosier Athletic Conference is a ten-member IHSAA-Sanctioned conference located within Benton, Cass, Hamilton, Howard, Jasper, Tippecanoe, Tipton and White counties. Greater South Shore Athletic Conference (IHSAA)
The Greater South Shore Conference is a nine-member Indiana High School Athletic Association athletic conference spanning Lake and Porter counties in Northwest Indiana. Two other members, Boone Grove and South Central, participate only in football, otherwise participating in the Porter County Conference.
