Indianapolis Public School Conference
The Indianapolis Public Schools Athletic Conference was an athletic conference consisting of high schools in the Indianapolis Public Schools district. The demise of the conference came in 2018, as four of the seven remaining schools closed in a span of two years, leaving only three schools left, one of which (Howe) is a charter school, and another (Manual) under state control (IPS has stated those two schools will close if returned to school board control). Instead, those two schools joined the Greater Indianapolis Conference, leaving George Washington as an independent. Membership # Shortridge was closed as a high school between 1981 and 2009. Pioneer Conference (IHSAA)
The Pioneer Conference is an IHSAA-sanctioned athletic conference formed in 2009. It is made up of ten small private, military, laboratory, and/or charter schools from Delaware, Hamilton, Johnson, Madison, Marion, and Wayne counties. All schools are Class 1A IHSAA members. Members Former Members History The conference was formed in 2009, with four Indianapolis-area private schools (Baptist, Greenwood Christian, International, Liberty Christian) joining with recently reopened IPS school Attucks, whose medical focus causes the school to be smaller than its public counterparts. Northwest High School (Indiana)
Northwest High School, located at 5525 W. 34th St. Indianapolis, Indiana, was a traditional high school operated by the publicly funded Indianapolis Public Schools organization. It closed in 2018. About The school, built in 1962-1963, adopted a unique school mascot called the "Space Pioneer," a reference to the United States' early man-in-space program underway during the school's founding. Arlington High School was a comprehensive public high school located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It closed in 2018 but reopened in 2019 as Arlington Middle School. History Arlington High School was established in 1961 to address rapid suburbanization in Indianapolis. Arlington was among the last public high schools to open within the Indianapolis Public Schools system. In 2004, Arlington High School implemented a small school initiative: Traditional departments were done away with and five small schools, or schools within the school were created. Arsenal Technical High School
Arsenal Technical High School, commonly referred to as Tech or Arsenal Tech, is a public high school in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, which is run by the Indianapolis Public Schools district. The school is located on a , multiple building campus east of downtown Indianapolis, and is the only such type school in Indiana. The school's campus originally served as a U.S. Civil War era arsenal from 1864 until 1903, when it was closed following the Spanish–American War. A few years later, the school opened in 1912 under founder Milo H. Stuart. Crispus Attucks High School
Crispus Attucks High School (also known as Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School) is a high school of the Indianapolis Public Schools in Indianapolis, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is named for Crispus Attucks (c.1723 – March 5, 1770), an African American patriot killed during what became known as the Boston Massacre. The school was built near Indiana Avenue (the business and cultural hub of the city's African American community) northwest of downtown Indianapolis and opened on September 12, 1927, when it was the only public high school in the city designated specifically for African Americans. An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams, playing competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Thomas Carr Howe Community High School
Thomas Carr Howe Community High School was a secondary school in Indianapolis that served grades 7–12. It was operated by Charter Schools USA. IPS Indianapolis Public Schools has plans to reopen Howe as a middle school in the 2024-25 school year. History Thomas Carr Howe High School (Indianapolis public school #420) broke ground in 1937. It was originally known as Irvington High School and was meant to serve the Irvington and surrounding areas on the eastside of Indianapolis. The first classes were in 1938. The school closed down in 1995. Howe reopened in 2000 as a community high school serving grades 6-12 school. Howe was eventually re-closed again in 2020.
