Vieille Montagne
Vieille Montagne was a zinc mine in Kelmis (La Calamine), a town in Belgium between Liège and Aachen. The mine's name is French for "old mountain", and this is also reflected in its German name, (earlier, ). The mine was once a bone of contention between Prussia on the one side and the United Kingdom of the Netherlands (later Belgium) on the other, that resulted in a piece of land that became the territory of Neutral Moresnet. Willemite
Willemite is a zinc silicate mineral () and a minor ore of zinc. It is highly fluorescent (green) under shortwave ultraviolet light. It occurs in a variety of colors in daylight, in fibrous masses and apple-green gemmy masses. Troostite is a variant in which part of the zinc is partly replaced by manganese, it occurs in solid brown masses. It was discovered in 1829 in the Belgian Vieille-Montagne mine. Armand Lévy was shown samples by a student at the university where he was teaching. Lévy named it after William I of the Netherlands (it is occasionally spelled villemite). The troostite variety is named after Dutch-American mineralogist Gerard Troost. Occurrence Willemite is usually formed as an alteration of previously existing sphalerite ore bodies, and is usually associated with limestone. Walter Stefaan Karel van den Broeck (born 28 March 1941 in Olen) is a Belgian writer and playwright. He graduated as a teacher in Dutch and History ( Lier), and he started his career as a teacher. In 1965, he founded the magazine '' Heibel'' with and . In 1974 he resigned as a teacher and became chief editor of ''Turnhout Ekspres'', and since 1979 he is a member of the editorial team of the ''Nieuw Vlaams Tijdschrift''. Groenten Uit Balen (play)
''Groenten uit Balen'' ("Vegetables from Balen") is a Flemish theatre play written by Walter van den Broeck in 1972. Later, he adapted the play into a novel. In 2011 Van den Broek and Guido Van Meir once again adapted the novel into a movie. Plot Groenten uit Balen is based upon real events which took place in the Belgian community Balen. In 1971 it turned out the workmen of Vieille Montagne in the other Belgian plants had a much higher salary for similar work. The workers in Balen wanted a raise. This led to a dispute between the workmen, the trade unions and the directors board. The 1500 workmen in Balen went on a strike, but this was not accepted by the trade unions. As a result, the workmen did not earn any money at all. The strike went on for 9 weeks. Many charity was set up by inhabitants of Mol and Balen. Jef Sleeckx, a politician, convinced the banks to cancel payments temporarily for affected workmen. Houselords did not ask rent during the strike. Shops gave food for free ... Mol () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Mol. In 2021, Mol had a total population of 37,021 inhabitants. The total area is 114.19 km2. Mol is a popular holiday resort, with many lakes surrounded by woods.
