Victorian Open (squash)
The Victorian Open is an annual golf tournament held in Australia. It was founded in 1957 and is the Victoria state open championship for men. It is run by Golf Victoria and is a Golf Australia national ranking event. The event is held concurrently with the Women's Victorian Open and offers equal prize pool for the two events. The tournament's tag line is: "Men and women. On the same course. At the same time. For equal prize money." The men and women play on the same course at the same time in alternating groups. History The first Victorian Open was played at Riversdale in 1957, replacing the Victorian Close Championship which had been first held in 1948. Barwon Heads
Barwon Heads (previously known as Point Flinders) is a coastal township on the Bellarine Peninsula, near Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is situated on the west bank of the mouth of the Barwon River below Lake Connewarre, while it is bounded to the west by farmland, golf courses and the ephemeral saline wetland Murtnaghurt Lagoon. Peter Thomson (golfer)
Peter William Thomson (23 August 1929 – 20 June 2018) was an Australian professional golfer. He won the Open Championship five times between 1954 and 1965. Thomson is the only golfer in the modern era to win a major three times in succession – The Open in 1954, 1955 and 1956. Life Thomson was born in Brunswick, a northern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. His Open Championship wins came in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, and 1965. He was the only man to win the tournament for three consecutive years in the 20th century. Ben Campbell (New Zealand Golfer)
Ben Campbell (born 20 August 1991) is a professional golfer from New Zealand. Since 2018, he has played primarily on the Asian Tour where he won the 2023 Hong Kong Open. He has also won the New Zealand PGA Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Early life and amateur career Campbell had a successful amateur career and was ranked as high as sixth on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. David Connor James Law (born 4 May 1991) is a Scottish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He won the 2018 SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge on the Challenge Tour and had his first European Tour victory, the ISPS Handa Vic Open, in early 2019.
