Victoria Schmidt
Victoria Schmidt is a New Zealand theater, film and television actress. She is most known for her role as ''Aaliyah'' in ''Sione's Wedding'' (2006). She is also a playwright. Biography Schmidt was born and raised in South Auckland, New Zealand and is of Samoan descent. Her parents are Samoan immigrants Fred Bismarck Schmidt and Agnes Schmidt (née Wright). She graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts from Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland. She has appeared in ''Sione's Wedding, Running With The Bulls, Othello Polynesia, Tautai'' and ''The Factory.'' Her first full-length, professionally produced play was ''Music and Me,'' which was staged at the Mangere Arts Centre in 2012. She both wrote and appeared in the play. Sonny Schmidt (1953–2004) was a Samoan professional bodybuilder. Biography He was born Edmond Alten Schmidt on 9 September 1953 or 19 September 1953. He grew up in Western Samoa. He later lived in Melbourne, Australia and travelled frequently to the United States for competitions. He placed in many events between 1989 and 1999. The career highlight for Schmidt came when he won the 1995 International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness, IFBB Mr. Olympia, Masters Olympia becoming the first Samoans, Samoan to do so. Schmidt was 5'10" and weighed 240 pounds at competition weight. He was arrested in 2000 on allegations that he assisted Australian drug lord Tony Mokbel to import cocaine from Mexico City into Australia. Polataivao Fosi Schmidt (1933–2005) was Samoan politician and a member of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa from 1964-1999. He was a member of the Human Rights Protection Party. Before his career in politics, Schmidt was the heavyweight boxing champion of Samoa, and scored over 80 knockouts victories in both amateur and professional boxing. Boxing career Fosi Schmidt (some sources list Fossi Schmidt) developed a keen interest in boxing from watching members of the United States military forces training in Australia during World War II. After compiling an undefeated amateur record of 30-0-0, 30 knockouts, Schmidt decided to become a professional boxer in 1952. Schmidt ran up an impressive string of knockouts on the Samoan Islands and won the Samoan Heavyweight Boxing Championship.
