Victoria Mavridou ( gr, Βικτωρία Μαυρίδου; born 8 July 1991 in Thessaloniki) is a Greek weightlifter. At age seventeen, Mavridou made her official debut as the nation's lone female weightlifter for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she competed in the women's super heavyweight category (+75 kg). Weightlifting At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's +75 Kg
The women's +75 kilograms weightlifting event was the heaviest women's event at the weightlifting competition, allowing competitors with over 75 kilograms of body mass. The competition took place on August 16, starting at 19:00. Each lifter performed in both the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The athlete received three attempts in each of the two lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted. The winner of the event, Jang Mi-ran, broke three world records: the snatch (140 kg, +1 kg), the clean and jerk (186 kg, +4 kg) and the total (326 kg, +7 kg). Snatch (weightlifting)
The snatch is the first of two lifts contested in the sport of weightlifting (also known as Olympic weightlifting) followed by the clean and jerk. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. There are four main styles of snatch used: snatch (or full snatch), split snatch, power snatch, and muscle snatch. The full lift is the most common style used in competition, while power snatches and muscle snatches are mostly used for training purposes, and split snatches are rarely used. Any of these lifts can be performed from the floor, from the hang position, or from blocks. In competition, only lifts from the floor are allowed. The clean and jerk is a composite of two weightlifting movements, most often performed with a barbell: the clean and the jerk. During the ''clean'', the lifter moves the barbell from the floor to a racked position across the deltoids, without resting fully on the clavicles.
