Vias (rail Company)
The Vias GmbH (stylized VIAS) is a rail service company based in Frankfurt (Germany). The name of the company was taken from the Latin word via for ''way'' and the letter ''S'' for service. It operates rail services in the states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. Owners The company was founded in 2005 by ''Stadtwerke Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main'' (VGF, the municipal transport company of Frankfurt) and Rurtalbahn GmbH (RTB) of Düren with both companies having equal shareholdings. In March 2010, Danish State Railways announced that it had taken over VGF's shareholding with the help of its subsidiary ''DSB Deutschland GmbH''. Vias, Hérault
Vias (; oc, Viaç) is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. It is a popular holiday destination, with many camp and caravan sites. Near Vias, the Canal du midi crosses the river Libron, an interesting historic engineering work. Vias station has rail connections to Narbonne, Montpellier and Avignon. Geoffrey Nathaniel Joseph Pyke (9 November 1893 – 21 February 1948) was an English journalist, educationalist, and inventor. Pyke came to public attention when he escaped from internment in Germany during World War I. He had travelled to Germany under a false passport, and was soon arrested and interned. During the Second World War, Pyke proposed the newly invented material, pykrete, for the construction of the ship Habakkuk. Early life Pyke's father, Lionel Edward Pyke, was a Jewish lawyer who died when Pyke was only five, leaving his family with no money. His mother quarrelled with relatives and made life "hell" for her children. She sent Pyke to Wellington, then a public school mainly for the sons of Army officers. At his mother's insistence, Pyke maintained the dress and habits of an Orthodox Jew. He became an atheist when he was thirteen.
