Veterans Memorial Boulevard
Veterans Memorial Boulevard, formerly Veterans Highway (locally referred to as Vets or Veterans), is a 6-lane thoroughfare in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and Orleans Parish, Louisiana, running west–east mostly parallel to Interstate 10. The western terminus is at Belleview Boulevard in Kenner just north of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and just east of the St. Charles Parish line. Veterans then proceeds in an easterly direction across the Jefferson Parish communities of Kenner and Metairie before crossing the 17th Street Canal into New Orleans and terminating at West End Boulevard approximately 1/2 mile east of the Orleans Parish line. Veterans is primarily a commercial corridor lined with malls such as Lakeside Shopping Center and Clearview Mall, strip shopping centers and car dealers. Kenner (historically french: Cannes-Brûlées) is a city in Louisiana, United States. It is the largest city in Jefferson Parish, and is the largest incorporated suburban city of New Orleans. The population was 66,448 at the 2020 census. History Originally inhabited by the Tchoupitoulas Indians, the area along the Mississippi River was the first land in the New Orleans metropolitan area on which Europeans set foot. René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle landed there in 1682. Interstate 10 In Louisiana
Interstate 10 (I-10), a major transcontinental Interstate Highway in the Southern United States, runs across the southern part of Louisiana for from Texas to Mississippi. It passes through Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge, dips south of Lake Pontchartrain to serve the New Orleans metropolitan area, then crosses Lake Pontchartrain and leaves the state. Lakeside Shopping Center
Lakeside Shopping Center, or simply Lakeside, is a shopping mall located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie, Louisiana, United States. It opened on March 24, 1960 as the first regional shopping mall in New Orleans and is the largest and busiest mall in Greater New Orleans. Lakeside is a mall with four major retail anchors (Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, and Zara). There are also more than 120 stores and restaurants. Lakeside once operated a 5-screen movie theater in a satellite complex near Dillard's but competition from newer stadium style theaters forced its closure and its eventual demolition for additional satellite retail space in 2000.
