Vestsjælland
West Zealand County ( da, Vestsjællands Amt) is a former county (Danish: ''amt'') in the west-central part of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising a few former counties. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into Region Sjælland (i.e. ''Region Zealand''). The county was responsible for public hospitals, upper secondary schools and schools for Higher Preparatory Examination, public transport and social welfare for the disabled. The County Hall was located in the town of Sorø, and became the seat of the new Regions of Denmark, region. Sorø is by no means the biggest city in West Zealand, but it has great historical value. Region Sjælland
Region Zealand ( da, Region Sjælland) is the southernmost administrative region of Denmark, established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. Zealand Region has 17 municipalities. Geography Zealand Region consists of the former counties of Roskilde, Storstrøm, and Vestsjælland. The region is named after the island of Sjælland (Zealand), which it shares with the neighbouring Danish Capital Region. Until 1 January 2007, Bjergsted was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in West Zealand County on the west coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in Denmark. The municipality included the islands of Sejrø and Nekselø, and covered an area of 138.62 km². It had a total population of 8,047 (2005). Hans Jørgen Holm (9 May 1835 – 22 July 1916) was a Danish architect. A pupil of Johan Daniel Herholdt, he became a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and a leading Danish proponent of the National Romantic style.
