Vestervig Abbey
Vestervig Abbey, also known as Vestervig Church, was established in about 1059 making it one of Denmark's most ancient religious houses. The abbey is located at Vestervig, Thisted, in extreme northern Jutland. History Vestervig is located inside the Limfjord near the west coast where the Limfjord meets the North Sea. There are many bays (Danish:vig) which branch off the main channel of the Limfjord. Vestervig was an important trading location in Viking times. About 1030 Saint Thøger settled at Vestervig and built the first wattle and clay church in Thy (now Thisted County). Thøger (or Theodgar) was a Thuringian missionary who had been living in England when Olaf II of Norway, Olaf II went there on a Viking expedition. Thøger's wonderful sermons brought an invitation to return to Norway with Olav as his personal chaplain. He had, even as a young man, a reputation for being able to heal the sick. Theodgar Of Vestervig
Theodgar of Vestervig (german: Dieter von Vestervig; da, Thøger; also ''Dietger'', ''Dioter'', ''Theodgardus'') (d. 24 June, in or about 1065) was a missionary from Thuringia who worked mostly in Jutland in Denmark, where he died and is venerated as a saint. Theodgar studied theology in England, after which he travelled as a missionary to Norway, where King Olav II Haraldsson attached him to his court. After the king's death Theodgar left Norway and worked as a missionary on the Jutland peninsula in Denmark, where he died on 24 June in or around 1065. His remains were translated on 30 October 1117 to the church of the Augustinian Vestervig Abbey. Peter Carl Frederik von Scholten (17 May 1784 – 26 January 1854) was Governor-General of the Danish West Indies from 1827 to 1848. Statistics Denmark
Statistics Denmark ( da, Danmarks Statistik) is a Danish governmental organization under the Ministry of the Interior and Housing and which reports to the Minister of Economic and Internal Affairs. The organization is responsible for creating statistics on the Danish society, for example employment statistics, trade balance, and demographics. Statistics Denmark makes large use of public registers in the statistical production. Population censuses have been produced entirely from registers since 1981. StatBank is a large statistical database maintained by the central authority of statistics in Denmark. Online distribution of statistics has been a part of the dissemination strategy in Denmark since 1985. It is updated every day at 9.00 am (CET) and contains all new statistics.
