Vestas 11th Hour Racing
''Vestas 11th Hour Racing'' was a Volvo Ocean 65 class yacht team competing in the 2017–2018 Volvo Ocean Race. Is was named after 11th Hour Racing, a program of The Schmidt Family Foundation and its then title sponsors: a wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S. After the COVID-19 pandemic disruption the team changed yacht class to IMOCA 60 and no longer had Vestas as a sponsor. It now competes in the 2023 The Ocean Race as 11th Hour Racing. Volvo Ocean 65
The Volvo Ocean 65 is a class of monohull racing yachts. It is the successor to the Volvo Open 70 yacht used in past editions of the Volvo Ocean Race. It was announced at a conference in Lorient, France, during a stopover in the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race. The yacht was used for the 2014–2015 and the 2017–2018 editions and is planned to be used for the 2023 edition. The 2014–2015 Volvo Ocean Race was the first one-design event. Design The yacht was designed, by Farr Yacht Design, to be a cheaper and safer alternative to the expensive and fragile Volvo Open 70. After many safety concerns in the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race, many began doubting the safety of the Volvo Open 70, due to many designers opting for fast designs while failing to meet safety requirements. Stu Bannatyne
Stu Bannatyne (born 20 April 1971) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in eight Volvo Ocean Races. He has won four of those eight. Born in Christchurch, Bannatyne won the Volvo Ocean Race (then known as the Whitbread Round the World Race) in his first attempt, when he sailed on '' NZ Endeavour'' during the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race. In the 1997–98 race, Bannatyne sailed on Silk Cut which placed fourth. He sailed on ''Illbruck Challenge'' when it won the 2001–02 Volvo Ocean Race, before sailing on movistar in the 2005–06 event. Will Oxley
William Oxley (born 1965) is a racing skipper/navigator and marine biologist who has completed more than 300,000 nm of ocean racing including five round the world races and 20 Sydney to Hobart races. From 1992 to 2000 he worked at the Australian Institute of Marine Science as part of the Long-term Monitoring Project which is intended to monitor the condition of the Great Barrier Reef. He skippered 'Compaq' in the BT Global Challenge 2000/01 and he was also the weather coordinator for the Swedish VICTORY Challenge America’s Cup Team. Charlie Enright (born 10 September 1984) is an American sailor who has competed in the Volvo Ocean Race. Born in Rhode Island, Enright attended Brown University. He sailed in the 2011 and 2019 Fastnet Race, winning the latter, and worked for North Sails. Enright and Mark Towill co-founded ''Team Alvimedica'' which sailed in the 2014–15 Volvo Ocean Race. Originally intended to be an all-American team, the team was American/Turkish flagged after sponsorship from Alvimedica. They were the youngest team in the fleet.
