Aleš Veselý (3 February 1935, Čáslav - 14 December 2015, Prague) was a Czech sculptor, graphic artist, painter and academy teacher. Life Aleš Veselý came from a mixed Jewish family of an insurance clerk and during World War II he lived with his parents in Hradec Králové. As a six-year-old boy, he had to wear the the yellow six-pointed star in public and this experience marked him for life. His father and sister were deported to the Terezín Concentration Camp, but managed to escape before the end of the war and returned home. During the war, 47 of his relatives were murdered. Aleš Veselý, as a Jew, was not allowed to go to school and did not graduate from the fifth grade of primary school until after the war. Vítězslav Veselý () (born 27 February 1983) is a Czech javelin thrower. He won two bronze medals at the Olympic games, in 2012 and 2020. Jindřich Veselý (15 June 1885 in Bavorov – 19 September 1939 in České Budějovice) was a Czech pedagogue, publicist, historian on the field of puppetry and author of puppet theatre plays. Early life and education Veselý was born in Bavorov to a family of a pedagogue. He graduated from the gymnasium in České Budějovice, then studied Czech and German philology at Charles University, where he gained interest in puppet theatre. From 1909 to 1935, Veselý worked as a high school teacher in Prague and Kladno, since 1935/36 he was the director of gymnasium in České Budějovice. Puppetry Veselý devoted all his interest to puppet theatre. Originally he collected puppets, texts of traditional puppet plays and documents on the activities of folk puppeteers. Jan Veselý (17 June 1923 – 10 February 2003) was a Czech cyclist. He won the Peace Race individually in 1949 and with the Czechoslovak team in 1950 and 1951. He finished second individually in 1952 and 1955, and won no fewer than sixteen stages. Thus he became one of the most famous cyclists in the Eastern Bloc, and an iconic figure in his homeland. Cycling was extremely popular in post-war Europe, and the Peace Race was bigger even than the Tour de France. Veselý's humility, allied to his sporting prowess, made him a genuine national hero.
