Verzocchi Collection
The Verzocchi collection or the Galleria Verzocchi - work in contemporary painting is a collection of over seventy 20th-century Italian paintings formed by the entrepreneur Giuseppe Verzocchi from 1949 to 1950. It contains only paintings of 90 by 70 cm and only on the themes of work and self-portraiture. Each painting is marked "V & D", the Verzocchi brand. It now forms part of the Pinacoteca civica di Forlì. Giuseppe Capogrossi
Giuseppe Capogrossi (7 March 1900 – 9 October 1972) was an Italian painter. Biography Capogrossi was born in Rome. After obtaining a degree in law in 1923–1924, he decided to study painting with Felice Carena at Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. In 1927 Capogrossi embarked on a formative trip to Paris together with fellow artist and acquaintance Fausto Pirandello. In the 1930s Capogrossi participated to many group exhibitions in Rome, Venice and Milan and Paris, usually as associate to the so-called "Scuola romana" ("Roman school"). Antonio Donghi
Antonio Donghi (March 16, 1897 – July 16, 1963) was an Italian painter of scenes of popular life, landscapes, and still life. Biography Born in Rome, he studied painting at the Instituto di Belle Arti from 1908 to 1916.Gale, Oxford Art Online. After military service in World War I he studied art in Florence and Venice, soon establishing himself as one of Italy's leading figures in the neoclassical movement that arose in the 1920s. Francesco De Rocchi
Francesco De Rocchi (1902 in Saronno – 1978 in Milan) was an Italian painter. Biography De Rocchi studied art at the Brera Academy in Milan from 1916 to 1926. He started an association with the Novecento Italiano movement in the second half of the 1920s. His maiden participation to the Venice Biennale was on the occasion of the 15th edition in 1926. In 1927 the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Milan bought one of his works and in 1929 he took part in the Seconda Mostra del Novecento Italiano in Milan. De Rocchi's involvement with the Chiarismo movement in the 1930s was expressed by a lightening of colour and reduction of volume in his work. In 1937 he obtained a teaching post at the Brera Academy in 1937 and in 1939 he won the Bergamo Prize. Mostly based in Milan, he continued to paint and exhibit after World War II, with frequent stays in Venice and Versilia. Filippo De Pisis
Filippo De Pisis (11 May 1896 – 2 April 1956) was an Italian painter and poet. Biography He was born Luigi Filippo Tibertelli in Ferrara. Fortunato Depero
Fortunato Depero (30 March 1892 – 29 November 1960) was an Italian futurist painter, writer, sculptor, and graphic designer. Biography Although born in Fondo or in the neighboring village of Malosco, according to other sources (in the Italian Trentino region, at that time the County of Tyrol in the Austrian-Hungarian empire), Depero grew up in Rovereto and it was here he first began exhibiting his works, while serving as an apprentice to a marble worker. It was on a 1913 trip to Florence that he discovered a copy of the paper ''Lacerba'' and an article by one of the founders of the futurism movement, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. Raffaele De Grada
Raffaele De Grada (Milan, 1885–1957) was an Italian painter. Biography Initially trained by his father, a decorator, in Argentina and then from 1899 in Zurich, De Grada attended the academies of Dresden and Karlsruhe over the period 1902–05. Influenced by the Swiss Secession movement, he enjoyed success as a landscape painter from 1913 on. He moved to San Gimignano after World War I and then to Florence, where he lived until 1929. Antonio Corpora
Antonio Corpora (1909–2004) was a Tunisian born Italian painter who followed the Tachisme style of Abstract art. Corpora was born in Tunis, Tunisia on 15 August 1909 to Sicilian parents. He trained at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts under the mentorship of Armand Vergeaud. In 1930, Corpora moved to Paris, eventually settling in Rome in 1939. In Rome, Corpora joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti, a post-cubist Italian art movement. In the 1930s, Corpora's style was abstract and geometric, heavily influenced by Cubism and Fauvism. Primo Conti
Primo Conti (16 October 1900 – 12 November 1988) was an Italian futurist artist. Conti was born in Florence. Between the ages of 8 and 9, he showed precocious talent in the fields of music, poetry and painting. In 1913 he met the Futurists. His attraction to the latest innovations was expressed in almost completely Futurist forms in his drawings, while he developed a unique style in his painting that was a mixture of Art Nouveau, Fauvism, Expressionism and Orphism. It was not until 1917, after meeting with Giacomo Balla in Rome, and with Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in Naples (who later enthusiastically praised Conti's book ''Imbottigliature'' which was about to be printed) that Conti became part of the Futurist movement. Bruno Cassinari
Bruno Cassinari (29 October 1912 – 26 March 1992) was an Italian painter and sculptor who worked in a style that mixed cubist and expressionist elements. Biography Cassinari was born in Piacenza. He attended the local art school but eventually decided to move to Milan, where he studied painting at the Brera Academy under Aldo Carpi. Felice Casorati (December 4, 1883 – March 1, 1963) was an Italian painter, sculptor, and printmaker. The paintings for which he is most noted include figure compositions, portraits and still lifes, which are often distinguished by unusual perspective effects.
