Verve (The Verve Album)
''Verve'' is the first EP by English rock band Verve, released in December 1992 on Vernon Yard Recordings in the United States and Hut Records in the United Kingdom. Two singles from the EP would reappear on the B-side compilation ''No Come Down'' ("Gravity Grave") and the singles compilation '' This Is Music: The Singles 92–98'' ("Gravity Grave" and "She's a Superstar"). The EP captures the Verve's early style of experimental psychedelic rock. The cover was shot in Richard Ashcroft's flat in Wigan. The person on the cover is Ashcroft's then-girlfriend Sarah Carpenter. The Verve
The Verve were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Wigan in 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bass guitarist Simon Jones (musician), Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. Guitarist and keyboard player Simon Tong later became a member in their first reunion only. Beginning with a Psychedelic rock, psychedelic sound with their debut LP ''A Storm in Heaven'', by the mid-1990s the band had released several Extended play, EPs and four albums. They also endured name and line-up changes, break-ups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. The band's commercial breakthrough was the 1997 album ''Urban Hymns'', one of the List of best-selling albums in the United Kingdom, best-selling albums in UK history. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. "She's a Superstar" is a song by the English rock band the Verve. It was released as the band's second single in the United Kingdom on 22 June 1992. It reached number 66 on the UK Singles Chart. "She's a Superstar" and "Feel" were recorded during early 1992 in the swimming pool at The Manor Studio because, according to Miles Aldridge, the pool had a "beautiful echo effect with the music going over the water...there was a lot of smoking and acid involved in that session." A music video was shot for this song in Thor's Cave, Staffordshire; this was the same cave pictured on the front of Verve's album ''A Storm in Heaven'', and also features in the music video for Blue (The Verve song), Blue. The cover of this single was taken on Snake Pass, Glossop, Derbyshire, England and was the basis for their greatest hits album, ''This Is Music: The Singles 92–98''. Gravity Grave
"Gravity Grave" is a song by the English rock band the Verve. It was released as the band's third single in the United Kingdom on 5 October 1992 by Hut Recordings. It reached number 196 on the UK Singles Chart. "Gravity Grave" was recorded at Jacobs Studios in Farnham, Surrey. "Endless Life" was recorded at a studio in Ancoats, Manchester. The cover was taken on Formby Beach, Merseyside, England. The man pictured on the cover is Tobyn Burnett. The cover was designed by Brian Cannon of Microdot and shot by Michael Spencer Jones. Music video The music video features the band in a 1973/74 Dodge Charger traveling through a rural setting and at one point stopping at a roadside cafe. Various locations in Hartlepool are featured, including the horseshoe tunnel in Steetley, although much of the previously industrial area has been redeveloped into housing since the video was shot. Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas, Lancashire, River Douglas. No Come Down
''No Come Down'' is a compilation album of B-sides and outtakes by The Verve, released in 1994 for Vernon Yard and Hut Recordings. It was the first release on which the original band's name Verve was changed to The Verve due to conflict with the jazz record label Verve. Overview "No Come Down", "Where the Geese Go", "Twilight", and "Six O'Clock" are outtakes from the sessions for the group's first album, '' A Storm in Heaven'', and first appeared on B-sides to singles from that album. "Blue" is presented in a different (vocally upfront) "USA Mix" - released to coincide with Verve's participation in Lollapalooza. Another outtake from the band's debut album is an earlier and folkier alternate version of "Make It 'Til Monday".
