	Verso Sud ''Verso Sud'' (internationally known as ''Going South'') is a 1992 Italian drama film produced, written and directed by Pasquale Pozzessere. For this film Antonella Ponziani was awarded with a David di Donatello for Best Actress and a Silver Ribbon in the same category. The director Pasquale Pozzessere was instead nominated for a David di Donatello for Best New Director and won a Grolla d'oro in the same category. The film also won the Grand Prix at the Annecy Film Festival. Plot Rome. Paola is a single mother who has just come out of prison; Eugenio is a homeless young man addicted to alcohol. Paola's son is called Chicco, and he is a little boy who lives in an institution for minors where his mother goes to visit him. 	Pasquale Pozzessere Pasquale Pozzessere (born in 1957) is an Italian film director and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Lizzano, Taranto in the mid-1980s Pozzessere abandoned his medicine university studies to enter the cinema industry working as a script supervisor for Pupi Avati and as assistant director of Francesco Maselli. After directing a number of short films, he made his feature film debut in 1992, with '' Verso Sud'', for which he was nominated to a David di Donatello for Best New Director and won the Grolla d'oro in the same category. 	Annecy Italian Film Festival The Annecy Italian Film Festival (french: Festival du Cinéma Italien d'Annecy), founded in 1983 and since then, each year shows the best of contemporary Italian cinema. The private festival is held annually (usually in October) at the Centre Culturel de Bonlieu, in the town of Annecy, in the middle of France.
