Versalles, Buenos Aires
Versalles (also Versailles) is a '' barrio'' (district) of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is part of Commune 10 along with Villa Real, Monte Castro, Floresta, Velez Sarsfield and Villa Luro. Versalles is located on the western end of Buenos Aires; its boundaries are marked by the following streets: Nogoyá, Irigoyen, Juan B. Justo Avenue, and the General Paz Expressway. History The area around Versalles was part of a vast estate owned in the 18th century by Pedro Fernández de Castro; the neighboring ward of Monte Castro was later named in his honor. His daughter, Mercedes, subdivided the estate after his death, and the lot that later became Versalles was later owned by Manuel de Sarratea, one of the founding fathers of modern-day Argentina. ''Waiting for the Hearse'' (''Esperando la carroza'' in Spanish) is a 1985 Argentine comedy film directed by Alejandro Doria. It is considered a cult film. It opened on 6 May 1985. The story belongs to the ''criollo'' grotesque (costumbrismo) genre or black comedy. It's based on the play of the same name by Jacobo Langsner, premiered by the ''Comedia Nacional'' company in 1962. Avenida General Paz (official name Ruta Nacional A001 - National Route A001) is a beltway freeway surrounding the city of Buenos Aires. Roughly following the boundary between the city and Buenos Aires Province, it is one of the few motorways in Argentina that is toll-free.
